I would never ever keep this symbol of bad memories with myself.

I say just throw it on his face and never see it again!

when the relationship itself is gone then why to keep that memory ? just exchange it for any jewellery or sell it .

I agree with Ivlakshmi, even i personally kept it in a locker for case of financial need. If you are financially secure you can donate, if it would remind you to the marriage dont melt it otherwise exchange / melt it into something which makes you feel happy.

I do not know about religious or spiritual recommendations for this. Just my practical recommendation, if you get to keep it and your ex-husband or in-laws are not asking for it back, just keep it along with rest of your jewellery. At the end of the day, it is gold which is a lot of money and security for your future, just like any other gold you have.

find a lake or pond in outskirts of your town and dump it after saying some prayer or whatever. Better option, like someone mentioned, melt it and buy new gold. Then sell that gold and buy a new vehicle. trust me, you will like the vehicle and will have no guit either because it came from your mangalsutra.

    Hi Justice,

I'm fighting my divorce case...kindly refer me some good advocates....my advocates is taking me for a complete ride.........pls help...give names in the forum itself....will be grateful for your help.......

As many of u know and if you have read my posts im on the path to getting a divorce. I am in the process of finalizing the papers after 3 very long years of court cases and unnecessary drama. Anyway, i have already asked about what to with things from the past in one of my previous posts. But, this particular post is about what to do with my mangalsutra. Is there any tradition/protocol to be followed in cases of divorce, i.e. break up the chain, or melt it etc?. I come from the reddy community. So any reddy ladies reading this, it would be nice to hear some suggestions.

    Thank you.[/QUOTE]
