Hi Ananya,

I am posting my response from another similar thread that was posted yesterday -

I have been using Olive oil for my cooking for the past 5 years. The brand I use is called Figaro Light Olive Oil and does not leave an aftertaste in the food like normal olive oil does. For deep frying, I use sunflower oil called Noor Frylite which is transfat free and is ideal for frying. I stock Idhayam Gingelly Oil too which I use not for cooking but for mixing with mulagai podi and paruppu podi saadham (yummmmyyyyyyy!!!!!!). For party food and special food, there is always butter and ghee to be used in cooking. When I was just married, I used to use coconut oil for making avial and sambhar but now I have completely stopped using coconut oil in the house after reading about it being unhealthy and loaded with cholesterol increasing ingredients.

Check out the thread and poll at

What is your cooking oil?
