What do you think about the reality shows?

Last Sunday, I was watching a show on Times Now; it was about reality shows that have become common in our TV rooms. I think each of the popular channels of Indian television has its own reality shows. That show talked about a lot – about the content of the show, should some content be censored, the fight for TRPs. However, the main question of the show was ‘How real is the reality shows?’ what I found was that most of the audiences were against such reality shows but when the anchor at the end of the show asked the audiences if they will watch reality shows again or not, everyone replied ‘YES’ in unison.

I was watching a similar kind of show on NDTV India. I don’t have a very good opinion about the reality shows. With every reality shows, the content is becoming more and more explicit. I mean look at ‘Sach Ka Samna’, I have watched a couple of episodes, what are they trying to prove with those questions??? Whether someone loves her father who has left her and mother or not is definitely none of our business to know and we
should not be interested in it either.

Most of the reality shows are gross…Big Boss leading the others. When someone fights on Big Boss, you will hear infinite ‘beeps’.
Gawd!!! I have stopped watching the reality shows…

Media just wants to make money.

If u had seen the movie mumbai meri jaan, they have shown exactly how it affects ppl on askin unnecessary questions.
Especially in reality show after winin a contest, if the anchor asks the person how do u feel now, i get very irirtated. Obviously if u have won somethin u ll feel happy n proud n in bad times u ll b hopeless..

You have said it right Preethi. I too have watched this on TV a million of times. After you have won a competition, the anchors flock to ask one question – ‘how are you feeling right now?’ as if they are supposed to feel something different than happy.
These reality shows are not at all real for me, mostly made up for only one purpose- raising the TRPs and nothing else.
I had watched the first season of Big Boss and have learnt my lesson.
I have promised myself never to watch the reality shows in my life again.

Actually these shows have become " Unreality shows" literally.The producers and directors of such shows failed to understand some basic things. That, they aren't making a cinema. And, this involves the common man, and his family as well. For this, they had to take utmost care and consider all aspects before making these unreal reality shows. They know it's scripted, so the scripts should have been careful. Spicing up things can do good, but low category spices mostly spoil the cooked food, they forgot it. People like celebrities. But when their beloved celebrities fight, nobody likes it. They failed to understand this. And, what's most dreadful of all, was when they put minors completely vulnerable to the celebrity judges' terribly abusive comments. All the people who has children in their homes, everybody disliked it when judges got violent in vocabulary against minors.But to be actually a real show, there shouldn't be any 'director' in the show. Because the existence of someone directing things destroys all the reality there itself.

Very well said Padmini. I am very impressed with your opinion. It is true that the audience first understand that they are being fooled by them. A reality show should never have any director. It should take its natural process as the show starts. In this case I would say that ‘Roadies’ is more real than the other reality shows. They tell the contestants that they have to do some work, and whatever the contestants do during the ongoing of the work cannot be scripted and is not scripted.
I watch the Roadies.
P.S – I have heard that the episode when TV actress Urvashi came in ‘Sach Ka Samna’ got the maximum TRPs because of the questions asked. I have not watched the episode.

You have said it right; these reality shows are actually ‘Unreality Shows’. However, I can guarantee you one thing, no matter how much we are against these reality shows, we will be the first to watch when a new reality show is aired on any TV channel.
The latest one to talk about I think is ‘Is Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao’, don’t think it has gathered much TRPs and the ‘Sach Ka Samna’, which I think is the worst of the lot, followed by Big Boss.
Last season’s Big Boss was pathetic; the residents included Rahul Mahajan and Monica Bedi. I dint understand how on earth could the producer of the show bring such people on a show. It rightly brings out the point that these shows are just meant for TRPs.

thanks for posting and sharing your thoughts about he reality shows. what i personally feel is that there should be a limit to the content of the shows. and if possible stop at all permitting to air reality shows whatever maybe the type on TV. but i know the number of the reality shows will be on the rise very soon.
