Hello Everyone,
How are you all? How are you all enjoying the rains in Kolkata? Hmmm….you all know what, the rains are making me think of my childhood days. Those were the days. I was quite a spoilt kid in my childhood days, always engaged in doing some mischief or the other.
Whether I am in school, or in home, in someone else’s house, on a holiday, I have always kept doing the crazy stuffs. The scolding of the elders did not discourage me a bit...I, accompanied my brother and sisters kept doing crazy things.
I am sure you all have done some crazy and naughty things in your childhood.
I would want you all to share your childhood memories.
I am sure you will do it.
I will post mine after I get some crazy replies…
THANKS Reshmi for coming up with such a good topic. I am sure that this topic will get plenty of replies.
As for me, I was quite a brat in my childhood days. Walking on the boundary wall, jumping 5 steps from the staircase, trying to stand on a ball was very common for me.
Anyways, as for the crazy habits, I used to eat rubber or eraser whenever I got chance. In fact, I was so fond of eating erasers that at one point of time, my parents had to buy erasers everyday.
But I don’t know how I got out of this habit.
There was another crazy thing that I loved doing, it was eating Nivea cream. The thickness of the cream tempted me very much and loved eating it; of course, this habit was restricted to winters only.
But I loved doing it.
Hope you all have crazier things…do post.
Reshmi, waiting for your post as well…
Hi everybody, I must admit this is a really funny post. How could you eat chalks Sriparna? For that matter how could you eat erasers Sreejata? And Nivea? That is really a crazy thing to do. Well, I too wasn’t that obedient in my childhood days, I remained more engrossed with experimenting. Nancy Drew and Famous Five being two of my favorite detective story books, I always thought myself to be a detective.
In fact, with my sister, I often used to roam about our ‘para’ at odd hours of the day as detectives. My sister and I played like we are out to solve out something. And carrying our ‘cap bondhuk’, we mostly ran behind the cats for some extra adventure.
That was really a funny thing to do in childhood, I guess... Aditi
Nice post and all of your childhood activities are really very funny. It took me to my childhood days. hmmmm…I was quite a ‘shanto’ girl when I was a kid. I never bullied anyone, nor tried too many pranks on anyone. However, I had this one peculiar habit for which my family still teases me. I used to chew ‘sari’, my mother’s specifically and for hours.
Well, I dunno if this is something crazy or not, but surely it is very peculiar. I enjoyed chewing the sari for hours; the best time was when I went to sleep. I would continue chewing till I slept. It is kinda unbelievable for me these days, but many of my mother’s sari were wasted and she could not wear those.
Whatever, keep posting…
Hello Everyone,
I really laughed out loud reading all of your replies. Eating chalks, eating erasers, eating nivea, chewing saree? Gawd!!! Are these all humanly possible??? Anyways, my favorite past time when I was kid was to walk on sunsets, mostly during summer vacations. Now, in my house there was a half completed room which was detached from our house. It was more like a one room house. It was left half constructed for years. And the sunset of that one room house was joined from all the four sides. And I used climb and walk on the sunset.
Believe me, it was quite thrilling…unfortunately I was caught one day and was severely scolded by my parents so that put an end on my walking on sunset. Sad!
Between, you all keep posting your crazy things done in childhood…
P.S- I guess it is time for Reshmi to pen down. Don’t you think?
Love,
Teesta

Hello Sriparna, Sreejata, Aditi, Sayonti, Teesta and Ami,
I am so happy to see that so many of you have replied. Thanks a lot to each one of you. I don’t remember most of the things that I did in my childhood, but one thing I remember doing with all my cousins. We used to shut ourselves in a room and used to make swing with sarees. We used to tie one end of the saree on one window and the other end on the window across the room. The best part was to fight to sit on the swing, and most of the time when we sat together, we all used to fall down.
Another thing that I did, though it is very common, was fighting with pillows. It was tremendous fun.
Take care,
Reshmi

Hi Reshmi
The saree swings you said about reminded me of another thing we did as kids.Me and my sis made a swing out of mom's saree tyingone end on a window and another on a book stand which is more than 2meters tall.
And we made our younger sis lie on the swing and started swinging it singing lullabies and all of a sudden the book shelf came down with a heavy suitcase on top of it.Luckily me and my sis were saved from the things on it.Hearing the sound mom, granny everyone came to upstairs and then we noticed our younger sis is missing. We started searching through out and we were hearing her voice from somewhere....finalyll we came to know that she is within a heap of books!!! After taking her out mom said "OMG"!!!

Hello Everybody, To Ami, this is the most hilarious post so far. I did many crazy things in my childhood. One thing I remember doing with my friends was making umbrella houses. We used to open all the umbrellas of the house and keep on the floor then it cover it with bed sheets or bed covers and then stay inside it. Each ‘umbrella house’ belonged to each one of us. It was lovely, the space was so less but even then we used to be inside. Thanks for putting up this topic. Keep smiling… Aparajita
