Default Mandarin - at Sarat Bose Road

Saturday I had gone to Mandarin for lunch. Mandarin is a restaurant in Kolkata situated at 217, Sarat Bose Road, Kolkata – 700 019. It serves Chinese cuisine and is a very popular eating out option among South Kolkattans.

I have been to Mandarin quite regularly since my childhood. We also, very frequently, take food from Mandarin home. I love everything that Mandarin serves.

The soups and starters can give stiff competition to the other Chinese restaurants in Kolkata. The noodles that they serve are excellent in both the hakka and gravy forms. The menu has a wide range of chicken and prawn items most of which are delicious.

Default Re: Waldorf - at Park Street

Piya, your account of Mandarin reminded me of the period when I used to stay in Kolkata with my parents, as a child. We also used to frequent Mandarin.

Another Chinese restaurant that we used to frequent was Waldorf, which was located at Park Street. It was a small place. But the ambience was wonderful. The Chinese wall-hangings, paintings and showpieces created a lovely atmosphere. The color and lighting schemes were charming.

The food was too good to be described in words. Authenticity was the greatest quality that Waldorf had. I remember visiting the restaurant during a Duck Festival that they were organizing. My first experience of tasting a roasted duck was fabulous.
