Last year after Diwali ...there were many used diya(mud lamps) stacked in our storeroom...I was about to clear up all when I got this little idea of creating tortoise out of it. We created a whole family of big n small tortoise from various size of diya. Try out ..its real fun and beautiful showpiece :)

1)Keep diya inverted and cut a piece of hardboard just a little larger than the size of its outer rim. Apply fevicol on the edges of diya, Invert diya and stick it over the round cut cardboard piece.

    2) Add fevicol to 2 table spoon of ceramic powder n bind it to make a soft dough. Layer n cover diya with the dough. Make a small face n feet from the dough n glue it to the bottom of the hardboard. Take a pen n create the rounds over the body part to give realistic effect.

    3) Let the ceramic layer dry for an hour. Now coat it with green-brown oil paint. create eyes n other features.

Done :) The proud tortoise family is ready to be showcased :)
