hi aparna,

its nice . we are staying in petta, poonithura near mukkoottil temple. I was away from kochi for 6 years to look after my grand children because my two daughter in laws are working. now both the cuties are of 2 and 4 of age, so we are returning to kochi on vijayadasami day. I will give my phone no, once we settled there again. where are you at kochi. hope it will be near. I noticed most ilites in chennai are gathering on occassions. let us also.

keep in touch.

ganga

hi manchitra,

Its true you cant find the systematic pooja habits anywhere as kerala. In which part of tripunithura are you stayed . Poornathrayeesa temple is one among the 108 Thiruppathy. Our house is very near by to the temple. If you visit the temple, pl contact me.

happy navarathri.

ganges.

Dear Cochin ladies,

Glad to find such a thread in IL. We are planning to visit Cochin later this year (2 small kids and few adults (depends on who joins us)). Thinking about spending 2 days, main thoughts are some shopping, look around and good food.

Planning to spend a day shopping, in the evening go to Marine drive and next day take a boat ride to Ernakulam and do some more shopping and return that night. Sounds ok?

What are the best places to shop, mainly girl-kid semi-formal dresses please.
Thinking about going to Jayalakshmi silks, Kalyan silks, maybe MG Road and buy some souveneirs in Marine drive. May spend sometime at Gold Souk (no major purchase plans, but something modest).

Also, what are the good eat-outs? Love to eat Kerala special items, both veg and non-veg.

Any suggested boat ride, not to miss areas?

Also, a good hotel to stay (not 5-star, medium range) please.

Appreciate you taking time to reply. Thanks!

Dear bearpal

For shopping you have umpteen number of shops on MG road now. Chennai silks have started their show room and i have heard that is the most crowd puller now.

You may even visit Kochi, Fort kochi, the famous St. francis church and can visit the synagouse in mattancherry . it is just 2kms. from fort kochi. You can also visit the famous jew street where you would find antique things if you have interest in such things,it would require bargaining also.

I think if you are looking for decent accomodation Bharat Tourist Home is a nice place to stay, so is Wood lands where they provide decent clean accomodation, good place to stay with family. If I have some more info. i will add here. Hope you will have a nice trip.

Hey Bearpal,

You will love Cochin :)

To stay,
International Hotel
Avenue Center
Both have excellent breakfasts in the morning as well

Do check out Fort Cochin, Mattancherry and Jew Town. If you can, take a tour of Bolgatty Palace and do a boat cruise. Check out Marine Drive, take a trip to Tripunithura if you can as well (right outside Cochin)

Food - Ceylon Bake House is yummy (the location changed, its near Woodlands), also check out Woodlands, yummy food.

Bimbis near Jos Junction is good for a quick bite

Salt and Pepper / Brighton Art Cafe - Tower Rd - doesn't look like much but is really good

Abad Plaza has excellent biriyani

If you want to splurge a bit, Seafood Restaurant at the Casino Hotel and Rice Boat at the Taj Malabar are really good..
