Dear Alpa
Yesterday I met my friend after 14 years! Naturally we ate out and so my schedule has gone awry. If you had to choose between carbohydrate-rich food (like appam or idiappam aka stringhoppers) and fat-laden food (like naan and paneer butter masala), what would you choose? I thought for a while and chose appam. Appam is like dosai, made from fermented from rice flour but no oil. It is steamed. But the killer is the stew side dish, which is usually made using coconut milk or ground coconut and then added to vegetables.
7:00 am: Warm water and fenugreek
9:00 am: Weetabix with apple and dates
11:30 am: 2 plums
2:00 pm: 1 serving of rice with sambar and 1 serving of rice with curd. Side dish was beans curry. Had also left over mushroom curry
5:00 pm: 1 orange
7:00 pm: Half a bowl of tomato soup and 2 appams with stew
Was feeling stuffed after dinner. So dint take anything else.
I have just finished my first day of workout. Since gyms are closed here in the morning for Ramadan, I did at home. I am fortunate to have a fitness teacher as my neighbour. This is my today's workout schedule:
Around 8 mins of surya namaskar. I did it five times and counted for 7 seconds between each asana. Tried to count for 10 seconds, but couldn't. I am confident I will do that soon.
Then I did other yoga asanas. I was practising yoga regularly till 4 years back. So, I could do this without any guidance. I don't know the asana names, but will explain them. I did these asanas mainly for my abs. The first one is lying down and lifting your legs to 90 deg (10 times). Next was the snake position (10 times). I know this comes in the surya namaskar, but it really tones up the abs, doesnt it? Besides these, I did some general stretching and bending exercise.
My neighbour joined me after this and asked me to start with aerobic exercises. Since I am totally new to this, she taught me basic movements like swinging arms, moving legs, twist, how to jog, squat, etc. I enjoyed it a lot. Did for 20 mins. As a beginner and cos I am hefty, she has asked me to do this for a week for the same duration.
I really like the way my heart is pounding, the slightly sore abdomen, the litres of sweat that break out in the body--gives a very satisfied feeling!
Further, I think I should mention this also. Alpa, I do all the household work myself. I am in the kitchen for 2 to 3 hours a day, cooking or washing dishes or cleaning. Besides this, my kitchen doubles up as sauna cos of the hot climate here

. I also sweep and mop (with a stick) the house for 40 mins a day and then do other regular activities. I am mentioning this so that you can have an idea of the energy used.
Sorry for the long post. Please let me know if I can post the workout details here or in other threads.
Thanks for all the support

Have a great day!
