You have been huffing and puffing to shed those kilos but some of you still don’t see much improvement in terms of weight loss or fitness? Are you eating the right foods that provides energy to your body after a workout?

What you eat within two hours of your workout is critical to achieve your goals. The size, content and timing of your post workout snacks has direct implication on your weight and energy levels. Your body will crave for a good balance of amino acids, carbohydrates and protein. Raw foods, sugary drinks, fast and high fat food such as cheeseburgers, French fries, nachos are a popular options, but these are not enough to restore the metabolic rate.

Downing a bag of potato chips can deplete your potassium levels, which is crucial for body recovery after a workout. If you feel like gulping down a glass of milk chocolate drink or a bar, think again since it provides nothing but empty calories. You do need carbohydrates but not fatty pastries and donuts.

Some of the perfect foods that are apt after a workout are whole wheat bread, green tea, plain water, pineapple, papaya, oats, cottage cheese, dry fruits, whole wheat pasta, dark chocolate milk (70% cocoa), yogurt, baked sweet potato, cereal with low fat milk, fruit smoothie or juice.

So, eat right after a vigorous workout and get ready for your next exercise session!
