    Default Any one lost weight by doing surya namaskar

    Hi All,
    i want to know does any one lost weight doing SN .. I startd 2days back i am feeling energetic too .. Can u please tell any of u has lost weight by doing SN. If so how many sets you do and how many days it took..

    Hi,
    I do 20-25 sets of suryanamaskar early morning and go for a brisk walk for abt 45min in the evening.At times i believe i do more sets of it too,once u get the hold of it u dont keep track of the count
    I am sure this made me maintain my weight(52kgs). even after 8yrs of marriage.So i believe it does help reduce and maintain one's weight.

    hi sudha,
    thats great... I want to reduce lots of weight nearly 20kg .. I can do up to 10times .. I wil increase it gradually.. Can i expect 2kg loss per month atleast?

    Hi Sosona
    I think you have to take a more holistic approach rather than saying x number of surya namaskars translates to x kgs lost.
    12 times makes one cycle. Start with one cycle and gradually increase this number, as your body gets more accustomed to exercise. You can go upto 108 times..i.e 9 cycles! Combine this with other yogasanas for upper and lower body. Also add some aerobic activity say walking, cycling, swimming etc. For example: Do yoga for 30 mins one day and a 45 min brisk walk the next day...or 20 mins of yoga and 20 mins of walking everyday...try different combos and see what would work best for you. Eat sensibly, and in moderation...
    A combination of all the above will work best for you. There are a lot of threads that you can follow and get tips from for the same.

    I have a different opinion here.Doing Surya Namaskar alone will not help you reduce 20 kgs

    There is no alternative to cardio exercises, balanced diet

    Surya Namaskar is absolutely beautiful - It gives more peace, and relaxes the muscles, making them more flexible.

    But if you really want to lose weight, please adopt a combination of exercises+balanced diet

    I agree. SN helps make your body flexible. But there is no way it'll help you reduce weight.

    No pain, no gain (or loss in our case) :)

    On a lighter note, I took up doing surya namaskar when I heard Kareena Kapoor got her fab figure after doing 200 Surya namaskar's daily

    Definitely to maintain a great looking figure and an overall maintenance, Surya Namaskar is the best
    But first to lose the extra pounds, we need to do cardio exercises

    Kareena Kapoor is borderline anorexic, IMHO. Indian women are curvy and she isn't. Learn to love your curves people!! :)
