My MIL also has this habit. She calls 9 girls (under the age of 9) every year, do their pooja (like keeping nalangu), after they have food we gift them pavadai, bangles, chain, every thing (that a girl requires - like they tell solah singaar in north india).

I remembered those days on seeing your necklaces. Am sure that those girls who received those will remember it forever.
