Have you visited Auli in Uttarakhand? Oh! You haven't heard about it....
Well, Auli is relatively less known ski destination than Shimla, Gulmarg or Manali. It was only in the recent time, after the creation of new state Uttarakhand(formerly Uttaranchal) carved out from Uttar Pradesh, Auli was marketed as tourist destination. Situated at an altitude of2915 mts-3049 mts, Auli looks no less than a heavenly abode.
It is an important ski destination in the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand, India. Auli is known as 'Bugyal' in the regional language which means meadow. IDo you know, some French and Australian experts said that Auli is comparable to the best ski resorts in the world.
Thank you ankitakunwar for sharing information about this beautiful place. Auli looks incredibly beautiful. Which is the best period to visit Auli mainly to experience skiing in Auli?
I wonder if our Indian filmmaker's have ever chosen Auli as their location. As from the pic you have attached, I can only say WOW!!!
Auli is a haven for skiing enthusiasts. As I said earlier, experts have compared to some of the best skiing destinations in the world. Of course winter is the best time to visit Auli exclusively for skiing as from January to March, the Auli slopes are usually covered with a thick carpet of snow, about 3m deep. There a stretch of 3-kms with a drop in elevation of 500m is considered to be a very good skiing ground by international standards.
Skiing festivals are conducted at Auli including the national championships in the months of February and March, organised by the Winter Games Federation Of India. You can reach Auli by road or ropeway from Joshimath. It provides an excellent panoramic view of the giant mountain peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dunagiri.
If one is an adventure freak, the best time to visit Auli is during the winter season. The period from late November to late March is generally considered ideal for skiers.
Skiing is an adventure one must try atleast once in life..The awesome height and spread of the snow clad mountains, with the added advantage of powdered snow are tempting enough to magnetize the adventurous spirits of the avid skier, providing all the thrill and excitement attached to the game.
I was glad to find someone sharing the same adventurous feelings like mine.. and I hope to find more.
Hi Ladies!
Is anyone here who can tell me as much as possible about ski resort in Auli? I do really need someone who were there before and have some experiences, doesn't matter good or bad :)
We're planning to go for skiing to India (probably Auli&Manali) in the end of January 2010 with a group of friends, but all information I can find in the web are just a big contradiction, so I have no clue how is it over there in these ski resorts. I will appreciate all your help! thanks a million.!
