If you want to visit a nice hill station this year, try Manali. The sights of Manali have moved many a man (including my DH) to poetry. The mountains, the snow, the merrily cascading waterfalls and the roaring BeasRiver are an unbeatable combination. No wonder, Manali is called the Queen of the Western Himalayas. One of the major highlights of my trip was a visit to the RohtangPass which is about 51 Kilometers from Manali. The Pass is open from June to September. On the way to RohtangPass, you can stop at the Nehru kund, which has a clear water spring. The scenic Kothi village with its deep gorge and the splendid Rahalla falls are other attractions on the way to Rohtang Pass. I would like my friends to contribute their experience of Manali
Hi, Thank you Platinum and Nandshyam for stopping by.Here is how to reach Manali:
Part of the magic of Manali is that it does not have a direct rail connection. Almost all tourists make a beeline for Kulu which is only 2 hours away by bus. The nearest rail head is Chandigarh, which is about 280 km away or Joginder Nagar, approx. 200 km away. However, Manali is very well connected by Himachal Pradesh Tourism (HPTDC) buses to all major cities like New Delhi, Chandigarh as well as nearby tourist destinations like Shimla, Dharamsala, Kulu, Leh and Spiti. There is a regular Volvo bus service from New Delhi every day. In addition, there are both deluxe and semi-deluxe buses run by private operators.
we had also been to Manali recently via delhi and must say it was the best vacation...Delhi - Manali by volvo bus is overnight journey of 16 hours with halts at the super duper dhaabas for dinner and refreshments..
Our bad luck -- could not visit Rohtang as it was closed..but could see the snow fall and visited all other areas like snow point, ventured for the shivling trek, temples like hadimba temple, vashisth temple, buddhist monastery...
It is truly an awesome place...
shefali you can check the foll links for local site seeing and hotels in manali..

Hi Shefali I am sure you must have gone through the link contributed by Roopanair. It is quite complete. Thankyou Roopa. Here is a brief roundup of the tourist sites around Manali I visited : SolangValley: The valley is l4km from Manali and is the nearest glacier. Solang is famous for its picnic spots and offers winter sports like skiing. Triloknath: This pilgrimage centre is famous for the temple of the six armed Avalokiteshwara Bodhisattva. HadimbaDeviTemple: The temple was built in the 16th century and is famous for its distinct architectural beauty especially its pagoda roof. Vashishth: It is just 3km from Manali and is famous for its hot springs. Then there are ancient temples of Sri Ram and Sage Vashishth. Keylong: Tourists flock to the monasteries of Kardung and Shashu.
