A general idea...some people might be interested using electric pump; though you dont work now, the baby will get use to both B & B and it is a comfort factor to you as the bottle can be feed even by our mom or hub., and you can relax..have seen with my cousin a few months back and the baby atleast was not clinging on to her for feed, rest, she has to carry etc....

Hi Ami,

I second you. That's a good idea. Even I had an epistomy and once I recovered I suffered sleepless nights at times and just slept at times unable to control the sleep and my mother gave formula feed for my LO. Just remembered

Poonam, Vidya, ssreeja, it looks like we four are going through the same phase. I feel really sorry for our little ones. I am just hoping things will get better in a month or so.

In the mornings, I reallly feel guilty also. Because I feel very sleepy and tired, I sometimes do not feed her properly and I have this guilty feeling.

Hey all .... some new developments ...
LO has not been sleeping since y'day afternoon and all through night.
Also she has been cont. crying. Only time she is quiet is when she feeds.
I am very worried as she does even sleep for 5-10 min at a time.
Colic drop also did not help this time. She keeps twisting and straining .... I am thinking of visiting the doc, but worried that she may give a/b.

Ramya, why do you think the child may need a/b. Newborn sleep is rather problematic, either they sleep too much or not at all. From my experience, I have been through both before DS turned 3 months and things started settling down then.
While I completely understand it is stressful anddraining for you, I would think taking her to the doc at this stage may be counterproductive, given that so many of germs go around during the monsoon/flu season. Just a thought.
The efficacy of simethicone (colic drops) is highly questionable. Look at what in your diet could be bothering her. Also note that your child's digestive system at this point is immature, so she will have discomfort because these are new sensations to her. Are things like cycling the legs, tummy massages working for her? How about walks, bouncing on an exercise ball, rocker, bouncers, cloth cradle, etc... they do not help at all. I did notice that DS will cry when I put him on a rocker to rock, but my arms desperately needed the rest. So I would talk to him, sing (totally off-key), but continue to rock the rocker. He will then settle down. If you can get a sling, do use it a lot in the initial days.
Hang in there, this is just a temporary hiccup. She will be eating and sleeping well once her systems start maturing. Hugs.

Exactly... This is what happened with my LO as well... She cries for one day, be normal the other day, sleeps one day and doesnt sleep at all the other day... Sterday she started to sleep around 10 and woke around 1..then till 3 it was like disturbed sleep.... and after that didnt sleep till 9 this morning... so, this is a phase which our LO's need to pass through... I believe every child has to go through this in their own style...

I drink water boiled with ajwain and found her gas problems have reduced to some extent... I am not sure if that is the reason, may be a coincidence...however, I am continuing it still... Do cycling and tummy massages well before she starts crying, when she is playing or during a diaper change.. that helps a lot... I do it during the massage before bath and twice again before bed time...

I wish things should get better for you soon... HUGS

Love,
V

Hi Suman, Vidyaa,

I was just going through the link. Trust this helps.

Need Help to reduce Gassiness...

Also you can have the boiled water with vayuvidang as mentioned by me earlier, cause I know how this colic is. I recommended it to one of my friends sister who delivered twins recently and she is doing fine with the water. You can have the water and cook all the foods taken by you in this water, it will help while BF. Trust me, I took it and have no problems till date.

I'm sure tikka and others won't agree, but knowing your case I am just suggesting. Rest is left upto you.

i m feeling so helpless and low these days. theres a pattern everyday from 6 am to 9-10 am LO grunts, trying to forcefully pass out gas, and has difficulty pooping. she turns red.. we keep rocking her and holding cuddling her nonstop for these 4 hours. once she passes stools she is calm... i m guessing this to be colic... i only hope it improves with time.. she sleeps quite good at nights othrwise

Hi all mommies,

My DD is 3yrs old and DS 7weeks old.
I will share my experiences and trials to you all, if that helps:)

LO not sleeping due to colic or gas:

1) I use a digestive syrup - INFAMIN regularly. From baby's 3rdweek, i started giving 0.5ml, once a day, in the noon time. After 1.5months, i am giving 1.5ml now, once a day, before the night 10pm feed. For both of my kids i have been doing this. I continued this for DD till her 1.5yrs, increased dosage accordingly. Its siddha based, would taste like ginger+tulsi+herbs+honey syrup. Hence, this doesnt make them gassy,no stomach irritations, colic, and they wont catch cold too that easily. My DD's pediatrician in coimbatore suggested this.

2) If you feel LO is crying and irritated, and if you feed,he doesnt calm, instead he cries/grunts and feeds with difficulty, then for sure he doesnt want milk. LO has some other problem. Try giving HOT towel massages in the tummy. Try burping them for 15-20mins. Watch the time and do this.

When you put them to sleep, make them sleep in their side, upper body slightly elevated than the lower body. If you use thottil, you can do this very easily.
