Sindhu, I just had 45 minutes of utter nightmare with Riya's sleep. It wasn't this hard the first time we taught her to fall asleep, but now that she's older, it's getting really, really difficult. And she takes only an hour nap during the day too! The rest of the time she's the energizer bunny, with me following her around.

Latha, I am glad things went well at the play date and most importantly Ananya is getting better at sleep. Hope it stays that way forever.

Vanathi, belated happy birthday. Cute little kid you got there, and a smart one too!

Krithika, how did the sleep go for you guys?

I went 'gym shopping' today and have decided to try out one for a week before joining. This one doesn't have a pool though, I am kind of disappointed about that as I like to do aqua aerobics in the summer, but the prices are much less and they provide free child care compared to the other one. I start tomorrow so let's see how it goes.

The big disappointment for today was that the church I was hoping to get Riya in for part time child care, doesn't have a spot until August. So my plans for getting back to school have to wait too.

I hope Riya sleeps through the night. I never valued sleep this much before Riya arrived - shows how many simple things in life we take for granted.

Raj

Thanks everyone. Latha - DH got me a pair of gold earrings - sweet but not very wise maybe!

Raj - good luck with the sleep re-training. And good luck with the gym too.

Latha - nice to hear that A has settled down sleep-wise. Long may it continue!

Sindhu - so are you all set to go back to work?

V, belated birthday greetings. We are just 8 days apart. Mine was on the 7th. My sis watched M so we DH and I could go for a lunch alone and needless to say I couldn't enjoy it as this was the first trip when M stayed with anyone other than DH or me. Anyway she handled him well but since that night his screams and night wakings have become exponentially worse - don't know if DH & I going out together without M had that kind of impact on him.

Frankly I don't know how moms get the sleep schedules correct if they go out (M sleeps in the car or in the stroller, even during off times). And this totally changes the sleep pattern for the rest of the day. We can't afford to stay indoors as he's one busy body needing a lot of distraction everyday. I am even tempted to try the "cry it out" method but I just don't know whether it will cause breath holding spells or trigger any other health issues.

Now he's into everything including breaking a bottle today from the refrigerator while I popped it open to take out something from inside. Of course only when he breaks it goes into smithereens and I had to put him in the jumper to clean the mess up and he didn't like it at all.

Raj, good luck to you.

Latha, when do you come to US? Which part are you visiting? Anywhere near us, then we can meet... how long is your stay?

K, hope li'l K's sleep issues are better.

-L.

Lavanya, belated happy birthday. I personally don't think M's crying has anything to do with you guys going out for dinner without him. His sleep issues have been going on for a while now, aren't they? I am glad you guys went out. You should do it more often, especially when you have a sister around willing to babysit! And he even did good with her, what more can you ask for?! (other than good sleep, of course ) Good luck on that front. We are still struggling too.

Well, I found a 'Mothers day Out' program that may work for us. Left Riya yesterday there and she did great, I was told. And I was able to tackle my spring cleaning at home. The house is a little bit cleaner, and I have a box for donations. Love it when I do decluttering. The dogs are coming home today. The friend is going to drop them off sometime around noon. Yay!

Today I went to the Pilates class at Gym. Oh, it felt wonderful. Felt some burns at different parts I didn't even know existed in my body. Hopefully this will take care of my abs, which in turn will take care of my lower back pain. The weather is gorgeous here. Our daffodils in the front yard are blooming, and I am thinking of beautifying our back patio with some plants and little things so we can sit out and watch the birds. Riya loves to watch birds and point them out. I am not very good with outdoor gardening, so I am not sure how much I can get it done. But I do have plans. That's a good start, right?

Raj

Belated Happy Birthday Lavanya!

Vanathi, so sweet of your DH to give you the gold earrings - my DH was asking me to sell all my gold jewellery to take advantage of the prices and my parents were taken aback Even though I appreciate the economics of it, the romantic in me would like to be presented with gold...

Raj, you go girl! Good for you!

Oh isn't that a sweet gesture, Vanathi! I still have long due of gifts from DH:(

today was one of those days where everything starts brightly and sort of sinks!! weather was great, i dropped A at school since DH had a meeting. Then i did shopping. came home and little one started her fussy rounds. I'm giving her homeo for teething. Anyways she calmed down and i started with a cake project. climax part she comes into the kitchen, all over my feet like a cat and i don't know if it was coz of her... the cake was ruined. now it's like a rusk so we'll eat it anyways!

then big A is brought back home, lift retires. disturb her sleep coz she was lifted from the pram. then starts the drama. it all ended at 8 but i'm dead as a log. i don'T have interest to even clear the kitchen so here i'm with you all... the boy is sneezing badly so i decided to keep him home tomorrow.

today again i felt may be i'm being too restrictive with my kid and that's why he's nagging type... DH doesn't give me proper feedbacks...

for the good part LO and me picked up 4 plants that we plan to do this week-end. I borrowed a very cute book on balcony plant layouts and that'S my bed-time read currently. i only hope it doesn't start to snow again....

Latha

Belated birthday wishes, Lav:)

Today Aniish stayed home because of a nasty cold. I shouldn't have sent him y'day... trust mom's heart always!! He's better but i sure would love to be clingy when there is a combo of sore throat, sneezing. He had his 4th year check-up as well. He fared well in speech test as well (german and english... wonder when Tamil will figure there!). I requested for eye test since both me and DH wear specs. end of the month is therefore eye and hearing test. I also need to update his vaccines and do a dentist visit. and little A's vaccination as well before our trip to Chennai... looks like May will be busy:)

There was this very pretty girl (looked like Brit-Pakistani) who also came for her check-up and oh boy my kid was flirting so much. She was laughing at all his clown-acts.. hmmm i must keep an eye.

Little A is busy picking stuff and eating. I have stopped bothering. Today she even ate her brother's cookie crumbsbonk. She spots from afar and comes swimming fast. this one claps hands when her dad returns home.. now i'm clearly the neglected species boo hoo....

Latha - Looks like you do have a busy few months ahead. What palns for Aniish's bday - coming up soon right?

Lav - have you started planning M's first?

A did something thoughtful yesterday. He was sitting on the floor and looking at his book and I flopped down next to him on the floor saying I was tired. He quietly got up and went and got a pillow for me and said "amma, intha thalavani (pillow), thoongu (sleep)" and put it under my head. I was so touched - you have to forgive all the mischief when they do things like this right?

Vanathi and Latha, Aadhu and Aniish never cease to amaze me by their sensitive side and thoughtfulness!! What a gem Aadhu is to do that for you.

The little flirt! Cute. Boys will be boys, mamma.

As for picking up stuff and eating, Riya does that every now and then, if we are not looking. When we are looking she would hand it to us, and gets very happy when we say 'thank you'. Yesterday, I gave her an empty box to play with and she went to the kitchen trash can, lifted the lid, and put the box in it!! I was so surprised and proud.

Went to MOPS today and had fun getting back with my friends. I am currently possessed with plans to give a facelift to our back patio. It's not huge but it's in a bad shape. I have some plans on what I want to do. I'll take some before and after pics and post them here. But don't hold your breath, it will be a while when I can finish the project.

Hope you all are doing well.

Raj
