Very sad-Vanathi & moms pls help me

Dear Vanathi & other moms,

I have always been getting very good support from you all but I am so worried abt my son's health that i dnt get even a chance to thank u all.

My son has got tonsilitis,fever & chest congestion since last 3days.I immediately took him to his Dr coz he was vomiting after every feed due to cough.Dr prescribed Azithromicin,Salmodil(Expectorant)& crocin for 4 days.Its his 3rd day of treatment but there was not much improvement in his condition.In fact,today his condition became worse coz he was passing very watery motions (i think due to antibiotic dose).I am stopping his Azithromycin with immediate effect as per my conversation with his Dr.Pls tell me what can I do to give him at least some relief,Vantahi I am giving him Ondem 3ml to ctrl his vomiting if i dnt give,he will immediately vomit a full bottle of milk..I am really as sad as anything,cant see my son in this condition anymore.He cries for the whole night,his food intake is almost 0 for last 2 days & he cries while coughing alot due to pain in his throat.Pls suggest me some home remedies,I am in India& i dnt have hot water shower in my washroom.Hes not able to breathe & sleep.

Let me step in with some suggestions.
I have been through this and little bit worse. as a mother I can only imagine what you are going through.
First try and remain calm and do not panic. (I know its easier said than done). but its important.
Second FOLLOW what the doctor says completely. Also get in touch with your doctor on a continous basis
VERY Important to go with what the doctor says.
Thirdy give fluids so as child is not dehydrated.. there are many which you can buy ans also check with doctor.
If need be he can be admitted in hospital as per doctors decision.. when we were in similar situation my son was admitted in hospital to give fluids
but that time he had vomit and diarrhea at the same time

Please do consult the doctor on a continous basis till child gets better.

Monica - I'm so sorry to hear that Micky is not well. From your end you have to keep him hydrated (this means whatever fluids he will take not necessarily milk - lime juice, tender coconut water, buttermilk, veg soup are all alternatives) and watch his breathing and urine frequency. If he looks worse to you then his doctor is the only person competent enough in this situation to provide the right advice. He may need some other antibiotic/a chest Xray/IV fluids - i cant judge without seeing him. So keep him comfortable, stay with him as much as possible (thats the biggest comfort for a young child) and consult his doctor regarding medicines. Hope he recovers soon.

Dear Vanathi ,Vahee,Anandchitra & Padma,

I am really thankful to u all for us wishes & advices.Micky was not able to reatin anything yesterday noon .I know that its only due to antibiotics which makes his stomach flora so much disturbed that it leads diarrohoea otherwise hes was simply having sore throat & mild fever & vomiting.He was admitted inthe hospital due to severe dehydartion in summers also but he was discharged after 21 days coz superimposed antibitocs made his condition worse & pathology report of that hospital was showing some severe infections ,ie,Shigella sp,which is very rare in such age group & if its there its really very serious & leads to bloddy stool & all.When we get his stool culture done from sum other hospital 's pathology,it was showing no infection at all.
Yesterday I called up his Dr & told him that hes passing loose stools due to azithromycin given to him but he still advised me to give him bacigyl & get his stool test done.I have been a student of microbiology & biochemistry so I have at least basic knowledge of anitibiotics & medicines.I immediately decided that I will never go to that Dr again & called up my family Dr.She referred me another peadiatrician whom she goes when her kids r nt well.I know,it was very much risky to change his Dr at such a crucial stage but I did not want my son to be hospitalised thats why I took a chance & that new Dr told that its simply a viral infection & prescribed only a cough syup & advised me not to give him milk for 2 days & to give 4-5 ORS sachets & khichdi ,dalia kheer etc.Micky is already not feeling very hungry.In the monnibg I fed him upma he took only very few bites & now his khichdi is ready for dinner & he had already taken 2 glasse of ORS.He has passed urin 4-5 times & still passing loose motins which im not worried for coz thay r not very bulky.His conditin is a bit improved & last night we both slept anround for 6 hrs.I have taken an off for another 2 days & going to spend every single minute iwth him..
&&&&&u know,yesterday i was on a fast for him,ie,Santaan Saptami in which i was supposed to eat sweett puri with curd after pooja & sabudana kheer in the evaning but I was so upset that did not feel eating anything throught the day & bygod's grace,my son was much better when he woke up today.

Hi,
Keep your cool wen the kid is ill, getting tensed up and not eating will make you sick and then you will not be able to care for him. Once I let myself like this and I was donw with dehydration. So be brave, it will be difficult but we have to be like that. I am happy to know that he is better. I shall pray for him.
