Hello all. My 7 month old DD has very less hair. When she was a newborn she had average hair but now it seems much lesser than what she had before. I have heard of babies going through hair fall phase which I think shud be over by now. What's really worrying is whenever we travel to my inlaws or native her hair growth seems to increase and once we are home its back to square one. Not that I am too much concerned but it really bugs me when ppl tell she will have very less hair in future too. Me and my DH both have thick hair. Please could you all suggest if this is normal. When I see girl babies of her age having quite a few bunch of hair it makes me sad.:-(

A friend's daughter had this when she was a baby and they were worried, too.

They wound up shaving her head (like a Mundan) and I think they had to change the formula or add supplements in her diet (This was years ago and I dont recall the details) but have you consulated a pediatrician about this?

My daughter lost all her newborn hair when she was 6.5 months old. It was as though we had shaved her head. After that her hair started growing again but it did not grow thick. I used to apply every night.

We did mundan/shaved her head. Her hair started growing thick. I apply oil on alternate days.

I heard castor oil works to get thick hair.

I used to apply on my baby when she was small (during my leave) but after that I kind of got lazy as it is very thick and sticky (like honey) , does not spread well, smells bad but worst part - baby's hair gets pulled
while rubbing oil and she cries.

Some people say mix with olive oil etc to reduce thickness but it did not work. They are of different densities and never mix.

Shaving is known to bring thicker hair. Just like on adults, shaving, threading etc

It is usually genetics. My two older one was basically bald until they were over three. Now as adults they have thick hair. Baby hair is often so soft so it wears off and the new hair hasn't yet started growing. Shaving or applying creams does not help, if the child eat normally then the only thing is to wait.
