    Hi..
My baby just completed 5 months, planning to start solids. Can give Farex or Cerelac? Which is good? And which flavour is good..?

    Hi kshema,
Both are good... Rice is best flavor to start with.. It is easy to digest.
Initially , start cereal which is simple in taste. Gradually take flavors once the baby is used to solid foods.
I myself, gave cerelac very occassionally.
I prepared homemade cereal powder for my baby. I have taken rice and moongal in 3:1 ratio. Roasted them.. Grinded it a fine powder. This can be preserved if there is no moisture.
When the baby reaches 9 months, you can give multi-grain mix or saath maavu.
You can prepare it freshly daily.
    Hope this is useful.

    Hi,
I too gave this recipe as a starter solid food around 6-7 months age of my son. The texture is easy to swallow. My son likes it very much. I gave this for 2-3 months , instead of cerelac. ., as I want to give fresh, home made food.

dry roast 1/2 cup moong dal
    dry roast 1 cup rice
make a coarse power in mixie like ravva
take 1 table spoon of this power and mix with little water , keep aside
now boil 1 cup water, add the power to boiling water, which you kept aside, stir it.
let it boil, add pinch of salt and tea spoon ghee, let it boil more, till it becomes very very soft and gets like porridge texture .

let it cool, and fee the baby.
my son liked it very much.

first day may be few teaspoons is enough, see how baby is taking and digesting, based on that gradually increase. one time solid food per day is enough for few weeks.

when baby is 6 or 7 months old, you can introduce pureed boiled carrots, and other veggies, idli, pongal, rice and dal water etc.

see ragi porridge recipe also from here:
