I have a 2.5 weeks old and he gets gassy and has acid reflux most of the days.

We are giving gas drops for him and also making him burp every often

But still he has gas and cries and is fussy. Is it normal ?

Is is giving gripe water safe ?
coz of his reflux can he sleep for few hours elevated in fisherprice swing or car seat.

    Hi ,

He can surely sleep on elevated position thats not a problem.

There are few reasons that contribute to colic,

    1. Make sure baby drinks both fore milk and hind milk ( if breast feeding )
More of just fore milk gives gastric problem. Make sure baby feeds and empties one breast and then offer the other breast.

    2. Burp him well and keep him elevated for a while.

    3. Give him bath before sleep atleast under chest with warm water.

    4. I tried a pinch of perungayam ( asofitida ) powder mixed in breast milk around 6 pm and that relieved the gas.

    5. Watch your food, cauliflower, brocolli, potato, beans etc cause gas and that can be passed on to baby.

    Regards

Its going to get better, dont worry. Yes, this happens in babies this young. I started gripe water which helped immensely but that was after her 1 month. Check with your doctor if you can start it earlier.

Yes it is normal. I used to give my son ajwain water (instead of gripe water) 1/4-1/2 tsp. I started it when he was 3 weeks old. Worked very well.

During day time you can put him in a swing. In the night do not put him in the swing or car seat. It would be a bigger effort to break the habit.

    Hi ladies.

now he's 7 weeks old. His gas is somewhat controlled.
I see few things in him. i just want to know if All is fine. Pls advice
He wants to be held upright all the time. Fussy if left alone.
. Wants to be fed all the time. Only two things work: one is feeding him and one is holding him upright.
now I want to leave him crying for few mins and want him to learn to pacify himself so is it right to do it at this age or is it too early.

He is not fascinated by any toys or swing or bouncer.
Earlier I put some white noise to calm him but now he's not liking it.
Do colic babies cry all the time?

Shruthi: Colic babies CRY all the time. My DD used. There is nothing that can pacify them other than holding them upright that prevents the gas from coming up to there chest and irritating. I wouldn't suggest you trying cry it out technology at this time. It would be ok to do so if he was not colic but since he is colic it will not help him at all. But this will calm down soon. In you're two month visit you may want to ask your doc about this. My DD was give prescription medicine for her reflux issue and it went away when she was 3 months old. We didn't have to give her for longer time. Feeding him every time he cries may just make things worse if he is not really hungry but cries due to reflux. So you may want to watch how much he drinks and take caution.

Hi even my DS wants to be held upright all the time. He cries all the time and is fussy. Hardly lies down for 5 minutes after feeds. It is very difficult to pacify the baby during this time. Any suggestions for this.

Maybe it is just a phase. I am planning to ask the doc in the next visit. He also wakes up after peeing. His sleep is disturbed due to this.

OP, Have you tried putting the baby in rocker. Sit next to him and rock . Do it for 2-3 crying sessions. Dont stop when he still cries. Slowly he will get used to it and stop crying and enjoy himself.Good Luck.
