Hi My dd is 8 months old we gave bcg vaccination 7 weeks before in India. The vaccine site looks bulge red in color( like a big pimple on top of tat white puss) and a small white puss on it. Is this normal? Please advice.
My DD too had a red bulge like a mosquito bite, it will subside gradually. But not sure about the white pus, she didnt have that.
It happens after BCG vaccine which is normal. It will heal on its own leaving behind a small scar there.
Hi, My dd had her bcg at when she was 2 days old. She too gotpimple like and pus on top just the way you mentioned. For some it comes withpus for some it doesn’t. both are normal. For her after a few days(don’tremember aftr hw many days) pus started oozing with little blood. After the pusis all gone it will dry off on its own. Do not panic. These are all normal. I don’t rememberwhether I applied anything over it(3 and half yrs bck). I think I put someneospirin. Take care when u r bathing her, changing clothes might be painful. Ifpus oozes out make sure you wipe it off. Do check with your dr. Clear all your doubts with them.
Confirming that its normal. But I am surprised your doc didnt tell you about it,because they're supposed to.
Thanks Ami, Gandhimathi, Saps, Dinny for the reply. Yesterday the puss broke and hope it will heal soon.
Hi Still the white puss comes occasionally. Friday went to pediatrician she gave antibiotics 1ml mrg and 1 ml night for 7 days. And she asked to wait for next time the puss to come. I'm so worried. Pls suggest.
Sunshinebeauty Dont worry. It will heal soon. This is what I read on net "Immediately after the BCG vaccine there is a small swelling at the injection site which persists for 6-8 hours. After that the swelling disappears & the injection site looks normal. After 6-8 weeks a swelling reappears which looks like a mosquito bite. It grows in size & forms a nodule which breaks open & discharges some fluid & forms an ulcer. The ulcer heals by forming a scar. The whole process takes 2-5 weeks. Some times this process of ulceration & healing recurs 2-3 times. Ultimately the typical puckered scar is formed which remains for lifetime. Injection site should not be pressed or rubbed. It should not be fomented. Nothing needs to be applied locally. Infact, bath with soap and water should suffice even when it has ulcerated. " If ulceration occurs within 7 days of injection, one must report to the doctor, as it may be a sign of tuberculosis in the child
