| Hi Sanravi In India my kids pediatrician adviced for strict feeding till 6 months n then gradually reduce as child starts to take other food aft 6 months . Here in US also they said the same ........It took me six more months to make him forget it ..... Regards Santasekar |

| I am surprised that your doc told you that. It is recommended to breast feed up to a year and kids do get antibodies in breast milk even after 6 months. So if you are sick the baby gets the antibodies for the infection through your breast milk. Thanks, Kavya. Quote:

| Santhiya I don't how ur doc said such a thing. Lot of people BF beyond 1 yr & American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly recommends to BF till one yr. So don't stop. I agree with Kavya & Rajul. Dhivya |

| San, All of the recommendations (both American and Indain Ped Academies and the WHO) are to exclusively breastfeed for 4 - 6 mnths and continue for 12 mnths whenever possible. After 12 mnths it is up to the individual mother/child and there are many who feed beyond 18 mnths even. Personally I can tell you that the infection rate is much much lower in breast-fed infants (both my son and in patients I have seen) and it is amazing how much resistance is conferred by breastmilk. Do discuss with your ped and I hope you continue with BFing. Vanathi. |

| Dear Vanathi Thanks for ur inputs. Ofcourse i love to breast feed my baby. I am wondering why my doctor said so... Probably to treat me, i think.. I have stomach pain which comes evey 3 or 4 weeks and lasts for several hrs ranging from 8 to 12 hrs. She told me since i was pregnant that time when i met her, she cud treat me only after delivery. Now that since i m bfg she told its sufficient to feed till 6 mnths.. prob i guess that cud be the reason. But everything is based on wat i decide.. Let her first diagnose me... |

| yes do check with your baby's doc. I breast-fed my son till 13 months after which there was no milk in me and he gradually stopped. then i started giving cow's milk. I must second Vanathi that my son has a good resistance. I always got 'advices' from my in-laws and 'worried' relatives that my son wasn't chubby and i should be switching to formula milk... but damn all their comments, I'm really happy that i stuck to my decision. | Breastfeeding till 1 yr is best. At around 10 months they can be feeding 3 times a day (after meals) until u start weaning...also to make the baby chubby and healthy try giving sathu maavu--a powder made from Ragi, wheat barley cashew, badham etc...this helps them to put a little weight... |
