Smile Is measles and malaria vaccine safe for a 4month old

Hi, I am planning to travel to India with my 4month old during march, after her 4month vaccination. She will be turning 4 months on march 7th and on that date itself she will have her 4month vaccination. I am planning to travel during third week of march. Before travelling I want to take all precautionary measures for my baby like vaccine for measles and malaria as I am travelling to a costal area in India with lot of mosquitoes roaming around there.

I request ILites to share their experiences and can anyone tell if its safe to give all these vaccines before travel to a 4month? Because I have heard that its not good to give so many vaccines at one time or is there any other solution ??

Any suggestions to my concern is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Default Re: Is measles and malaria vaccine safe for a 4month old

Hi Newmom1,
There is no vaccine available for malaria. The earliest age for measles vaccination is 6 mnths (in India it is usually given at 9 mnths). Also measles vaccination by itself is not given in the US - only given as a combo MMR usually advised after 12 - 15 mnths. If you take adequate precautions to prevent mosquito bites, you can avoid malaria to some extent. Make sure your baby is fully covered in the evening/night and use a mosquito repellent.

Vanathi.

Thanks Vanathi for your advice. I really appreciate it. Do you think Mosquito repellent cream for babies will work ?? I have heard that here in US they give some pills for malaria to infants which should be crushed and given with food, but I have no idea if its eligible for a 4month old. Another thing my Pediatrician suggested was to give her Immuno globulin vaccine before travel. I would appreciate if any experienced mom have any suggestions for this kind of vaccine, please post them.
