Hi People My baby boy is 25 days old. His outer lips are pink...only the inner lips which touch my breasts during breast feed are black. I keep wiping his lips with a wet cloth or cotton after every feed...but i'm not sure if i'm doing it right. Please advise me the right procedure to wipe baby lips after breast feed. A lot of them say that if lips are not wiped then they remain black forever...is it true?? How long does it take for babies lips to turn pink?? . are there any home remedies that i can try??
My son is 4 1/2 years now and he was only on breast milk and a pacifier when he was born. I remember how afraid I was. His lips were 2 pitch black lines, with inner rim pink and he was also a bit reddish/dark in his skin color. Please don't worry today he has the pinkest lips and he has lightened so much. Not that his being dark bothered me but he just suddenly changed around when he was 3 months. So do post back when he gets his pink lips back and relax he will be ok!:thumbsup
Nothing to worry, my son had those marks, too.....they just faded away gradually. Just tiny dabs with a bit of cotton would suffice (as baby's skin is very fragile, just a soft touch would do). I was just wondering, are you using any cream etc for sore nipples? Because that could irritate your baby's lips. If you are, then you might need to check for other options....if you aren't, then no worries - the marks will clear out soon enough. Take care, and have fun with your baby!
U can avoid it if you gently wipe and clean your nipples with a damp cotton. as u will rub them with the cotton u will see the cotton turns black. keep cleaning them overfor a few days and then ur son's lips will not turn black. This is what a nurse told me right after my delivery in the hospital. i did it and it worked. so try it.
my daughter too had black lips..i did not do anything specially to make them pink, blackness faded away after some time..she was given zincovit multivitamin drops a week after her birth...i thought it was because of that..anyway dont worry...
Hi , my 2 months old son has black inner lips from birth . His outer lips are pink. Sometimes they seem to be lightening (maybe its wishful thinking) but sometimes it looks the same (maybe am pessimistic). I wipe his mouth after Bf. he is exclusively BF and i dont use any nipple creams. can you let me know when the darkness started reducing in ur babies and was it a sudden change or gradual one? Am tired of answering people when they ask me about it. So thought of getting an answer here Thanks.
Hi Dear aps2505, My son too had black inner lips, now he is two months old n his lip color has changed to pink. I was worried too a lot but gradually the color of lips changed naturally. So don't worry your cute baby boy will have pinky pink lips soon...
I know its too late to reply to your message but it may help someone else looking for an answer . Hope your baby lips are pink and normal . It is because of too much sucking . Either the breast or bottle or pacifier . Baby might be using nipple to self sooth rather than drinking milk is reason behind these swelling usually indian race babys gets it dark and few other race kids gets it as white /pale white lips which is unusual for them . Keep an eye on their sucking .
