Default Earthquake in Northern Virginia

Did anybody know that there was a small Earthquake in Northern Virginia. The news says that though it was very minimal , few residents felt the tremors. Most of us were fast asleep. I really didnt even have a clue of it, till i read the news..anybody else felt these tremors???

Unhappy Re: Earthquake in Northern Virginia

Hi ursnegithi,

That is really news to me !

Of course, I live in Central VA and they didn't even show this in local news today !?

It is surprising that there are tremors in the north-east region. Is this the first time, or has this happened before?

When I was living in California, I used to be very scared..similar to this incident, we had a mild earth tremor..again during night and only a few people felt that.

In San Francisco, they say these kind of tremors are a very common occurence and they are so casual about it too !

So, seems like anything can happen anywhere !

Yes Krithika, You were right 'anything can happen anywhere' , know what being in northern VA, i didnt even have a clue about it...even my friends who were awake during the time (mid night) didnt feel any tremors...i believe it was so mild....still the thought that we had a earth quake haunts me...so have you ever felt a earth quake, you had mentioned that there was one when you were in CA...i have experienced once in India in Chennai...i was watching a horror movie in the television all alone at home and thought it was a ghost of something....only later came to know that there was a earthquake....

by the way to answer your question on the previous earth quake, i read in the news that

'The most recent earthquake recorded in the Northern Virginia area was a magnitude 2.5 earthquake near Manassas, Va., on Sept. 29, 1997'

But am glad that this time it was mild....Hope we dont get anymore.....

Sri
