Good Morning DC iLites

Hi this is SriDevi from Northern VA, Am glad that Mrs Jey had been so kind in opening a seperate Sub-Forum for DC Area iLites. I beleive this is a wonderful opportunity for DC iLites to have a healthy interaction about people, place , food and culture and happenings in DC area.

I have heard from many seniors citizens here in DC area that, before some 10 15 years, it had been a dream for them to think about going to Indian movies in theatres here or getting Indian grocery especially spices from without worrying about clearing through US customs or to go our for a Indian dine out.

But today the situation has changed, the Indian community in the DC area had blossomed. You can see highly educated desi doctors, lawyers, Financial consultants and a large community of Software engineers and high-tech enterpreneurs.

Today when you think about wanting to eat Indian out, your options are plenty and unlimited. There are so many Indian grocery stores, there are Indian schools which teach Indian languages, classical dance and music, so many movie theatres airing Indian movies...I still remember enjoying movies like Vetayadu vilayadu and Shivaji here (am sure it wouldnt have been any better watching in India)...There are many hindu temples, ,sikh gurudwaras...

Altogether DC area had a diverse group that speaks different languages, has different religions, and comes from different parts of India.

But still I do not have the feel of being in our home country, Why not we all work together and get back all the spirit and fun that we would have had in India?

Lets all plan some fun activities or atleast speak through this forum and makes things happen in DC area???

What do you all say?

I have seen many threads from NY/NJ iLites and iLites from the west coast pouring in their ideas and planning events, I was so inspired by their posts, why not we all start something of that sort here in this forum?
