Default Help ...Moving to Leiden

Hi All,

As I am new member I should first be introducing myself.
I am swati ,I am moving to Netherlands, Leiden with my husband in october.
My husband has acquired a phd position there.

I have few questions and will really appreciate if you answer them ...

1.Can somebody tell me what are the rights of spouse in Netherlands?
2.If my husband has a work permit do i legally work in Netherlands as it happens in UK?
3.What are the living expenses ( basic) in Leiden (like rent for 1 Bhk ,utility costs etc.)?

I googled but didn't get much information.

Thanks
Have a nice day ahead
Swati

Hi Swati,

Welcome to Netherlands. It is a beautiful place you will love it. If your husband has a work permit then the spouse can work aswell. (like in UK)
I donno much other allowances. May be you will get more responses from more experienced guys.
Avg nonthly rent would be around 1200. groceries might take 300per month.
Hope it helps

Hi Everyone and a big HI to Lucas,

Thanks a lot Lucas for all the information you have provided ?

If I am not getting too personal could you tell me did you arrive in Netherlands in same condition as mine..I mean to stay with same Visa ,just want to confirm about work permit stuff as I have got mixed responses from other people regarding this.

Do you have any idea about job market in Netherlands especially IT job market there as I am from IT background ?

Once again thanks a ton for helping me out.

I am in high hopes about moving to Netherlands as everyone is saying its a beautiful place...

thanks and have a nice day ahead

Hi Swati, I work with IT too. I came here for work through an Indian company. My visa type is kennis migrant. (knowledgemigrant). I am not sure if this is the time for job hunting. Because last year when i was changing my jobs i could see a lot of oppurtunities in the market. But this year its quite dry and we know the reason ofcourse. I guess its getting better now. Good luck to you :)

Hi Swati,

I would like to reply on the costs of living
1200 euro per month is high, maybe they ask that for exptriate in special rented houses.
My advice is to ask the "gemeente" the local sarkaar / public authorithy for advice on how they can help you in finding a place to live.
Than your cost will be I tink max. 850 euro a month for housing.

regards

Sanjai
