Can dependants with carte de sejour work in France?

Hello,

I came to France last october and now I have my carte de sejour with me which is valid for one year.I have come with my husband who is working here and I came on a dependant visa.

Now my doubt is Can I work in France now with my carte de sejour or Should I apply for any work permit? When I translated my card into English I found that its written as "Private and family card" and this allows person to work.

But I wanted to get it confirmed.I stay in Strasbourg.Can anyone assist me as to where I should go and enquire about it.Please help me..
