Hello all,

I am a new member here, I hope I haven't broken some taboo by joining as I am not actually Indian, but my boyfriend of 2 years is (well, he's English). I am actually Australian and we both live and work in France.

The biggest hurdle we are both facing is that his parents are not accepting of our relationship and this causes us both a fair amount of pain and worry. There are a lot of factors coming into it, but I am older than him, and have a child from a previous marriage.

It's something we're hoping to get through with a lot of patience, and dialogue and love (for each other and also for his parents), but I must admit it is very stressful at times.

I have just found out that he may not be able to go back to the UK for Diwali, so would like to plan something amazing if this is the case. Do any of you have any tips or links to good guides for how I can really make this special time all the more special if he is unable to be with his family?

Thanks in advance,

Meli

Thumbs up Re: New member

Hi

Diwali is definitely a special occasion. You can make it special in your own way. Here are some possible ways:

1) You can make it special by both of you wearing an Indian Attire on that day (as all indians wear new clothes on diwali day).
2) You can make or buy some indian sweets (also part of our diwali celebrations).
3) Some exchange gifts during diwali - may be you can exchange gifts with his family [A touching gesture that would be for both your BF & his family...possibly it brings some peace to your stressed times].

Usually relatives and friends also make visits to houses. May be have a short get together at home in the evening with Indian Cuisine?!

Or best would be invite his family over to France (if it suits both sides).

All the best for your special occasion.

Cheers
Jenz
