Buying gold in dubai

Hi,

I am new to IL.Rightnow i live in houston and planning to visit Dubai during June in transit to India.Can anybody throw light where to purchase gold in dubai and How? Is there any suggestive name of gold shop either in gold Souq or in Karama .How can we negotiate the rate?One of my friend suggested me to buy in Karama center.Is it worth buying there?Any input on this is highly valuable.

If you are planning to transit in Dubai, my suggestion would be to go to Gold Souq. It is a wonderful place of tourist interest. You will be awe-struck looking at the gold shops and jewellery display. You can take a walk along the Old Souq (just two streets) and come back to the new complex at the entrance to the Gold souq for actual shopping.
The Gold rate is fixed. You can bargain on the making charge if you are buying a bangle/ chain/sets etc. For small items like ear rings, rings etc. the making charge is fixed around Dhs25. There are many shops Alukkas, Al Hassena, to name a few.
If you fancy 18K, then you can vist Damas showroom.
If, however, you are hard pressed for time, you can shop in Karama Centre (Alukkas, Aabharan etc have their showrooms here as well). Dams showroom is near Karama Fishmarket.
