| Dear Kutty_80, Welcome to Dubai. Dubai is as friendly as Indusladies. The rising cost of living is a universal phenomenon and Dubai is no exception. Rents, prices of foodstuff and utilities are going up. Still, Dubai is a nice place to live in. As regards the house, the rents vary a lot depending on the area you choose to live. For example in prime locations like Karama, Bur Dubai, Deira ,1BHK with Centralised AC, Swimming pool, gym could cost you between Dhs.75k to Dhs 85k per annum. In Qusais the same can cost you around Dhs.50k p.a. The local newspaper, Gulf News, comes out with a Clssified Section, which will help you locate houses when you reach here. For the first couple of months, you can choose to stay in a service apartment and look for a house suiting your budget and needs. All indian food items are available. You also have a wide range of Indian restaurants (Veg, Non-veg & even Jain) You will find a grocery in every locality who can deliver Veg/ fruits/ groceries at your home free of cost. Also local telephone call (landline only) is free. You normally buy a gas cylinder from a nearby gas agency. The building watchman will be able to give you a contact number. We do not book and wait as in the case of India. Once the cylinder is empty, you call the gas agency and you will get a replacement in less than 1 hour! Water/ Electricity is all paid by meter to the local authorities. Many people prefer to use tap water for drinking purposes though many opt to buy mineral water in gallons. Agin, the mineral water is delivered to your doorstep. Medical insurance is generally provided by the employer to the employee (Dependents coverage depends on the company policy) The summer in Dubai can be compared to Delhi Climate in summertime. Right now, the temp is 34 deg C(this is early summer). In peak summer (July/ Aug) the temp can reach close to 50 deg. The winter is very moderate. As of now, there is not tax system for individuals. Please let me know if you have any questions. Regards USHA Last edited by Ushakrishnan64 : 30th April 2008 at 02:06 AM. |
