| hello all, I am moving to toronto next month and coming via greyhound from the states. what is the custom procedure ( I am traveling for the first time to Canada as a PR) at the border? Do I have to get off at the airport with our luggages and then get our customs cleared, or do customs officer get into the bus and checks our papers in the bus? Please let me know.! also, Where should I start looking for a place to live? I do not know anyone there, and I have been trying to find an apartment or shared housing. If anyone has any studio/bachelor apt or shared accomodation. Please let me know. What kind of jobs do new immigrants find in Toronto. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! |

| Hi Houstonian, I am not able to provide you with any info since I am in the US. However, I thought it fit to ask you to post your question in ImmigrationVoice.org - Home and you'll sure to get some feedback. My husband says all you need to do is sign up and post your question. There are lots of threads on Canada immigration and you will find it useful. Good luck and best wishes. Cheers Krithika |

| Check this out: Settlement.Org: Do I really need the PR Card to travel back to Canada? As long as you have a PR, then you should be fine. Call greyhound and find out their procedures. Each transportation company has their own set of procedures. This is what Greyhound says in their site.. but its best to give them a call and confirm :) Best of luck !! The permanent resident card (PR card) is mandatory for permanent residents wishing to re-enter Canada aboard any commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus). A permanent resident is someone who has been allowed to enter Canada as an immigrant but who has not become a Canadian citizen. The PR card replaces the paper IMM 1000 Record of Landing document and is the official proof-of-status document for permanent residents. The fraud-resistant card provides cardholders with secure, convenient proof of their permanent resident status when re-entering Canada. Because it is highly resistant to tampering and illegal duplication, and offers transportation officials a more effective means of identifying people with permanent resident status in Canada, the PR card will help combat illegal entry into Canada. Existing permanent residents must be in Canada to apply for the PR card. Canadian permanent residents presently located outside Canada, who do not have a PR card and who will be returning to Canada on or after December 31, 2003, should visit a Canadian visa office to obtain a limited-use travel document at a cost of $50. Hope this helps :)
