Hi Visala

Congratulations and welcome to Toronto.
To answer your question --You can certainly wear Indian ethnic clothing like Chudidar, Sarees , Slawar kameez but I strongly suggest that you carry some western clothing like jeans , skirts and some T shirts. Like they say “when in Rome, Be Roman”
When you are here in Toronto its better to blend in with the crowd. Bear in mind that Toronto is perhaps the most multicultural city in today’s times. You will find people dressed in different traditional costumes from all over the world. But to save yourselves from unwanted attention, I would suggest you wear western in your daily life. You can always wear Indian while attending Indian gatherings and Temples.

Also keep in mind the weather is very different to India. It gets really cold here in winters. A good pair of jeans is an ideal choice to keep you nice and warm. Make sure you also carry plenty of warm clothing –sweaters, nylons, socks, a jacket to get you started. Rest you can observe and build your own style once you are here. It’s ok if you want to wear an Indian kurta over a pair of Jeans.

Hope this information helps.
