Default Getting Used to Life in UK

Hello

I just joined the forum. And I am glad I came across this on google!

We live in Fleet, Hampshire. moved a few months back from Finland. Dont really see too many Indians here and even the ones I did see seem to want to keep to themselves.....strange!

I am looking for someone who lives around here. We have 2 boys, 4½ and 8 months. It'll be good to know if anyone with kids similar age would be interested in getting together. I am mobile, havent driven around much but I guess it will be worth trying.

Am also looking for a job. I worked in India(9years) and Sweden(1 year) - primarily service Industry and had been engaged in HR Training for past 8 years. I am keen on something part time or full time in the training domain. Like I said, I am mobile so dont mind driving a certain distance if the job needs me to. Will appreciate if anyone here can guide me or share information about to help me with my job-hunting.

We have sort of started to get used to life here and I am sure with it'll be great interacting with all of you here at IL.

Cheers
Suman

Hi SumanP:

Welcome to Indusladies!

Well, I have seen that it does take a little while to get acquainted with others (whether it is Indians or the Brits) but once you do break the ice, you will find them to be warm people.

One of the easiest ways to find friends is at the children' school - now that the school term has started afresh, that should not be a problem. Also, the local library / area will have playgroups for children, so that is where children and mothers (as well) can make new friends.

About jobhunting, the local council will have all kinds of information about jobs, childcare, schools, playgroups, etc. That would be a good place to start looking for information.

Here are some websites that might be of help to you.
www.hants.gov.uk/
www.hants.gov.uk/jobs/
www.direct.gov.uk/en/Dl1/Directories/DG_10011446

Hope you settle down in your new home and locality soon. And all the best of wishes for your job hunting.

Enjoy your stay in Indusladies!

Sindhu

Many thanks for your response Sindhu, it does make me feel welcome to the forum. And its probably the first forum where I have seen a personal welcome note. Much appreciate it!

I agree about being able to make friends at the school. My son has started in year R so am getting to know some mothers now. Its a beginning I suppose.

Thanks again for your encouraging words and I hope to frequent IL more often.

Cheers
Suman

Hi Suman:

Felt good with your kind words:)

Another good place to know other Indians would probably be the temple if there is one around your area. Also, you could google for regional sanghas - tamil /telugu /kannada /marathi and get to know a few people.
