Hi sharma,

You are asking about the current market condition in UK.I should say very very bad.We see lot of people losing job daily. There is not much of advt for jobs.If only your husband has a job offer in UK its better to move or else I think its better to stay the current job. They also say its going to be worse this year end.So my opinion is think before moving to UK.

Hope it helps........

Hi Victory,
Thanks for your info. But the other day we went for an immigration office and there they have told like you can get oppurtunities very well and not a big problem.BTW my relatives are staying in london itself so though my hubby came over there, there is no accomodation prob atleast for 2-3 months and what we thought was he can get into some job meanwhile.......actually he is getting some oppurtunities but 'coz of no hsmp they are being rejected.
And one more thing dear,i heard that previous uk exp is needed to get a job.how far is this true??
Waiting for ur reply.......................

Sach...

Hello Sach ,

Welcome to IndusLadies !

Regarding your query , if applying for HSMP/Tier 1 amidst the current economic downturn has any prospects,I would advise you to apply for the visa as it is valid for 3 years.I am not sure how long you can stay in India once the visa is issued and if you need to travel immediately.I heard most of them say you can travel after a year also. Please check with some reliable source for this information.

As you have already mentioned that your husband had some offers which were rejected because of his immigrant status, which means there may be some good opportunities in his field.Another reason to apply for the visa ASAP is that there have been few changes to the Tier 1 visa processing. Please check the below link for more details.

UK Border Agency | Migrant workers face tougher test to work in the United Kingdom

In short, the home office is trying hard to allow only skilled migrants with more caution while protecting its local work force. Many reckon that the rules can be made more stringent to curb entry of foreign workers as the top priority now is to combat the alarming unemployment in UK.

The job market in UK is definitely affected by the recession but that said there are still job vacancies floating in several companies. It all boils down to one's experience, expertise and exposure.Do you need UK work experience ? Well that would be preferable but then lot of firms are aware that someone from India might not have UK work exp and will accept resumes from someone who has worked in MNCs and has bit of exposure to UK/American or other international companies.

Hope this information is useful and any other query pop in a message.

Dear Sach,

Please refrain from using sms/chat style words in your post as it degrades the quality of the site and is indecipherable to some.I , myself struggle some times with the acronyms .Please go through the below section on forum etiquette for guidelines.

Forum Etiquette

Coming back to your original query, HSMP is issued for a 3 year period.Mind, now HSMP is no longer available and is replaced with a new points based visa called 'Tier 1' which is akin to HSMP for skilled migrants. The initial validity of the visa is 3 years after which one needs to go for renewal and get it renewed for another 3 years.

Yes, my mother tongue is Telugu and I have been staying in London for few years now.Glad to assist you with any other query.Have a great day ahead ..

Having previously worked for a recruitment company I know the current climate is very tough!

I would seriously consider moving here without a job before hand.

Has your husband had any job offers?

Hi Elisha,
Thanks for your reply.
No,right now my husband dont have any job offers.
Here we have been to a consultancy, there they told once we got hsmp they'll place my husband's resume(wid that HSMP ID) in uk job portal and we can expect job calls when we were in india itself. They also specified many people got calls and some of them are selected even.
My Husband is in a testing field with 4.5yrs experience and what is your suggestion of job market there for my husband.
Is it ok if my husband got hsmp,he may get some job either(in IT industry)

Sach I'm very happy to help,

What you need to understand is unfortunately some employee's won't look at your husbands previous experience from India.

Recruiters will usually look at people with experience within the UK only.

I'm not saying he wont get a job its just it may take a very long time.

Its a shame becuase I see so many educated people migrating to England and then they just end up working in a fast food chain. That is not a job you and you husband can live happily on- how would you afford rent? living costs etc..

Can I ask why you would want to move to England when at this current time many people are losing their jobs?

It's a very difficult time of the year for people to be able to afford to even get by.

Why don't you try and get your husband to contract in Dubai or in a European Country and then move to the UK after the recession?

I hope you don't mind me asking but how much is your husband earning annually in India?

All the best,

Eli

Sach,

I agree with Elisha that the job market has dried up for the past few months.

As you have already stated that the recruitment agency will set up interviews for candidates in India for UK company, provided they have a valid visa to work in UK,there are two distinct things.

1) Getting a visa to work in UK.
2) Attending interviews and securing a job preferably from India.Looking at the current market conditions, it is advisable to have a job in hand before travelling.

Now you need to decide if you want to apply for HSMP/Tier 1 in order to proceed with your plans.I see it really difficult to get interview calls if a valid visa is not available at the time of the interview.Again going back to what you have earlier stated that your husband was offered jobs but the employers retracted since he does not hold work visa, you need to assess if only a valid visa is causing the issue. How long back did this happen ?

If your question is ,should we apply for visa irrespective of the market conditions ?

Yes, if there are no financial constraints with the fee and visa processing requirements then you may apply for it.No harm in getting a visa valid for 3 years.Mind, after April this year ,only Post graduates are eligible to apply under Tier 1 and fortunately there is no lottery system unlike H1 processing

If your question is, in the current UK market, is it advisable to apply for visa and search for a job ? [you do not want to apply unless you are certain of getting a job]

No, currently the market is bad.The whole process of getting a job is getting tougher and tougher by the day.

I hope you take a decision which suits your need. All the best.
