We are staying in Richardson,Dallas.
We are planning a trip to San Antonio & Houston during the long weekend.
Please tell me what all are the attractions in both these places.
Anyexperiences of travelling to both these places in one go...please share.
Recently we moved from san antonio to Dallas. The places to visit in San antonio :
Riverwalk,
Sea World,
San Antonio Cruises,
ripley's believe it or not
museums,
Riverwalk (very cool all the Bars/cafes/restaurants along the river). Take the Riverwalk boat tour from Rivercenter Mall.
Sea World
I think you can pass on Ripleys and Museums.
Alamo - Famous for Texas History, you might not be interested however...
Fiesta Texas (Six Flags) go before they close them down (Six Flags declared bankruptcy recently).
Finally, they have a few Spanish "Missions" that are scenic and nice to visit.
As Far as Houston:
As Yanin mentioned, specifically suggest Galveston for seafood and free ferry boat ride you can take and you might see dolphins. Mosquito Cafe in Galveston has some Veg. options also if thats for you and they're really good.
I would also suggest visiting Galleria Mall if you like Shopping. Its the 4th largest mall in U.S.
Also, Houston is known for its good, relatively inexpensive food. I suggest Chuy's Tex Mex or Niko Niko's Greek.
The above suggestions are really good places to visit in San Antonio and Houston.
Trip to both the places on the same day might be too hectic. Especially, if you plan to go to Sea World in San Antonio, that's going to take almost the whole day to finish all the shows there (Shamu show being the last one). We recently went there with my SIL's family.
It is good to plan something like Sea World during the day, a nice evening walk and dinner in the River walk of San Antonio. You can even drive to a Hotel in Houston for the night stay and start sight seeing Houston the next day.
Some more places to see (especially if you are going with kids):
Kemah Board Walk (on the way to Galveston from Houston)
Schlitterbahn (water park resort) - in Newbraunsfels, near San Antonio
Also, if you would be interested in Indian Temples, other than Meenakshi temple in Pearland, near Houston, you can visit the Hindu temple of San Antonio, in a little hilly place called Helotes, near San Antonio. This temple is located on a small hill and drive to this place is nice.
