| Hi Valli and Ria, Welcome to houston! Yeah Vidya is right......houston and dallas are almost the same. In terms of weather I would say dallas is slighly better than houston with less humidity. If you have kids dallas is a much better place to settle down coz it has very good schools and much bigger indian community than houston. What are y'll doing for thanksgiving? Doing anything interesting? Sharada, Have you finalized the house? Abi |

All day long just sit at home and watch TV...cant imagine life like that anymore. We were in San Antonio before just moved to Houston a month back so new to the place. But i like Houston better than San Antonio as it is a city and i can actully see a lot of people here. |

| hi to Meen and Abi. And thanks for the warm welcome. Well Abi i have grown up in Delhi (India) so coming from a metro city like delhi i like Houston as it reminds me so much of delhi only. Busi traffic, crowded places, people of different cultures etc. San Antonio is a very calm place so not my types...... We live on Westheimer..dont know which side is it. But we are very close to Hillcroft area. I hope you know now where i live. So what do you all do all day long? I read it on the thread that you guys catch up on weekends. That's very good. I dont have a licence yet so cant go anywhere without my hubby. That's all for now from my side neha |

| Neha, We are no better. Relying on husbands, in fact we have them too for the get togethers. Just one has happened so far though. Abhi, see I have a company now.Another one from delhi. Neha, I am a Sarojini Nagar resident. Currently my parents are close to Mayur Vihar. So we can share some delhi memories in the coming days. I was in Delhi for 17 years and then moved to chennai. Westheimer - I visit this place quite often to shop for indian stuff and sometimes at the huge Chinese market there... So again, nice meeting you lady..What have u majored in ? I mean career ....

| Hi Meen and Abi, Thank you both for your response and providing me an overview of Dallas vs Houston. I did post a reply to you both, but to my surprise I couldn't see it reflected on the IL forum. Not sure why? Anyways, I haven't visited Houston and I plan to this December. Meen and Abi, do you both own a house? We are planning on getting one, but still haven't decided which part of Houston. Would any of you be knowing which part of Houston has the best school district, Indian community and crime-less environment ? BTW, Meen do you speak Tamil, as I see that you lived in Chennai for a while? Ria, Welcome to US and I am new here to IL site. The only ones I have known so far is Meen and Abi. I live in Colorado and plan on moving to Houston or Dallas in June 2008. Have been doing all my research about these 2 places to decide which one's best :) . Let's keep in touch. Valli |

Abhi, me , Sharada and Sushila everybody speaks Tamil. As for buying house, best wishes on your decision. But I should say I am bit surprised. In your position, I will stay in Houston for a while, get a feel of it, see if I and my family really like it, get some popular votes about places around, do the research after landing here. Recently I made a trip to Smokies through Greenville. Vijay ( my husband) loved the small cities and their quietness, I didn't prefer that though, at least not now. He was like maybe sometime later we can think about it. Bottom line - you ll know, only when u stay in a place and it varies with each member in family. As for me, I have liked Houston so far, but absence of car, H4 visa have kept me grounded at home. Also Indians are abundant but scattered. So if I were to meet a friend, it ll be atleast a 20 mins drive with the help of my husband. In the process of learning to drive now. There are indians around, but I still need to get in touch with them. As for schools Katy area is very good, developing and appreciating. Anybody I ask says they have bought their house in Katy. When it comes to house and investments, isnt it good to go for undervalued assets which will appreciate. Pearland is another area, which is not a part of Houston, but is in the South of Houston. There, because of Meenakshi Temple many people have settled in and around. Indians here send their kids to veda classes, karate classes. Facilities are abundant. In sugar land( South West) there is a famous Carnatic Teacher too. There is no dearth for Indian shops. Just telling you whatever my experience has been so far. Also I have not stayed for more than an year now. So expert "opinions" as always are seeked.
