Default Indian couple planning on moving from USA to Zurich

Hi All

We are Indians living in the US and are planning on moving to Zurich (unable to reach a decision yet) for 2 years. My husband is thinking of taking up a post-doc position at ETH, Zurich and hence, I need this information to help us make a decision

I work here in the US as an IT Auditor. I was wondering if I need to learn German in order to work in Zurich.

Are there any companies that would hire only English-speaking people? We will be in Zurich for 2 years if we decide to move...What kind of jobs do spouses take up in Zurich when they come in as dependents?

Also, since my husband will most likely be on B-permit..what kind of visa restricions will I have as his dependent? would I be allowed to work?

Thanks for all your help. This will probably help us get information to make a decision...

Hi ,
as far as i know you need to know german to work anywhere here except with Indian/Foreign companies here. My hubby works for an Indian IT company .Its not necessary for him to learn German although he leart for everyday conversation in Zurich. If you learn it,it would make Life much much easier.
With dependent B-permit you can take up a job here . You don't need a separate work permit .

Hope this helps

Thank you Gundasi for the response.

I have one additional question.

I am currently working here in the US and may not be able to travel with my husband to Zurich, CH at the same time.

His employer is currently processing his B permit. Do they need to process any additional visa papers for me separately?

They had mentioned that I should enter Switzerland together with him, else they need to file for additional documentation for granting me an entry permit.

(1) Is it better to just go ahead and have them process additional documentation for an entry permit ('Familiennachzug')

(2) What is the visa or permit granted to spouses of B permit holders called?

Thanks for all the help
Meghna

Hi Meghna
I am sure you will enjoy Switzerland. You did not mention where in the US you are based.

There are lot of desi shops and restaurants in Zurich area so you should feel at home.

Remember depending on where you are coming from weather (winters) and cost of living is bound to hit you.

>> Your processing will be done with husband's B permit. You will get your own permit when you land and register. This is why you may be better off coming with him initially and then relocating later.
