Default Montgomery Area Attractions - Things to do!!

Montgomery is the capital of Alabama and also happens to be the second biggest city in AL. Both Dr Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks (the lady who refused to give up her bus seat to a white man) made this city famous during the Civil Rights Movement.

I'm going ahead and naming the most famous attractions in this area but I bet there are tons of places only the insiders will know. So please come and add those must see attractions to this list. -

1) Civil Rights Memorial - This memorial chronicles key events in the civil rights movements and bears the names of 40 men, women, and children who died during such events.

2) Shakespeare Garden - It is a 56,700 square foot garden complex containg plants, flowers, willow arbors, shade trees, and garden shrubs. There is also a thatched-roof pavilion and a 325-seat Amphitheater.

3) Ice Palace - This is a climate-controlled enclosed rink located inside Eastdale Mall where you can ice skate.

4) W.A. Gayle Planetarium - One of the major facilities of its kind in the U.S. The auditorium seats 235 people and is designed specifically for simulating natural sky by projecting images of sun, moon, planets and stars.

5) Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts - Permanent collection includes examples of 19th-and 20th-century American paintings and sculpture, Southern regional art and Old Master prints. There museum also includes ARTWORKS, Alabama's first interactive fine arts gallery for children.
