Default Re: Rice shortage!!

Dear Friends,

In Singapore, We don’t have rice shortage! We have more varieties of rice coming from different parts of the world. Rice from Thai Land is the major exporter & we do get rice from USA, Philippines, Burma (Myanmar), Vietnam, Pakistan & India. It is we Indians who got used to our Ponni rice unable to take & try out other varieties. It is all individual taste & preferences.
And, yes! The prices of rice have gone up No doubt & there is a shortage of ponni rice coming from India. I am sure this is definitely for a short period only!

The new I’Lite by mistake wrote the topic as ' Rice Shortage'. She should have written ‘Shortage of Ponni rice’! Sometimes, the mis-lead title like this can attract wrong attention to the readers!

I used to buy Golden Dragon available at NTUC and other supermarkets in Singapore. Only after moving to Europe we have started to buy Indian rice like ponni. We never found any difference with Thai rice. You might want to try this brand. But I'm not sure how it turns out in pressure cooker. I used only rice cooker.

check out the local provincial shops. They normally have the ponny rice. Indian shops next to HDBs are your best bet. But the price of ponni rice has doubled approx. Its 18bucks for a 5kg pack. These people are so smart, that they don't have in bigger quanities, they force us to buy the 5kg pack. Just wish i can import rice myself from india. Considering is only about 500-600SGD for a 20ft container.
