Default Re: Advice Required on Living in Saudi.

Hi SNK,
I was thinking of replying to you but Prasad has replied to all the points. I would like to add a few things.
If you need to spend for home travel, local visa expenses(an identity known as iqama for each of the family member will be given) then your initial and annual expenses will be more. Generally these are taken care by the company apart from giving one month salary as vacation salary at the time of annual vacation and check up these things in your case. With all these containing expenses with school going child within SR3000 per month will be difficult.
Herealso cost is increasing for all the items and hence if you come with a saving tendency of Rs80000 per month you may feel disappointment. I wonder how did you arrive this figure with SR9000; or this may be your basic salary and perks are there like conveyance, school fees etc. I hope that house rent is separate and you have not included. (Generally companies give 3 or 4 months basic as house rent and most of the cases it is this amount which can be saved as a bulk since this is paid once in six months by them, and you will also pay rent once in 6 months in advance.)
But Saudi is a peaceful and safe living place for all if one likes to have more indoor activities and weekly once outing.
All the best.

Question Re: Advice Required on Living in Saudi.

Hi SNK,

As my husband said I dont know from how you arrived RS. 80,000/= to save?
That too per month? RantIt is impossible. You have to setup a family here no? Even your husband stays alone here you cannot save that much. With in SR.1,000/= ( 9000 - 8000 + 1000) what can we do?

More over you have not mentioned about your posting place and perks. And no details about the nature of job. Are you coming here by contract or on duty etc., You asked about schooling, without knowing the posting place we cont comment on that.

Because for Dammam International school, Many are coming from Hafuf that is more than 50 Km from the school. So when we dont know about your place of posting we cant comment on the schooing, extra activities and expences for schooling. So try to give more details and ask questions.

My husband and Prasad gave as much as they can. From that you would have got some idea, if you want more, we are ready to tell. but the thing is you have to give your details correctly.

As Prasad said, you can check the before post by kitchuppa to prasad and can understand things.

Sister,

Thanks , I am more or less getting used to Riyadh though the temperature is getting difficult even for a Chennaite :)

My apologies to you and other sisters

I forgot the adage....there is a woman behind every successful man :)

Yes, thanks to Mr. Kitchuppa's mail - I got a hang of things.Otherwise I was also fed wrong notions on the cost and the associated savings.

I request you and Sir to help by providing more advice as I will be posting on more queries on life in Saudi for a couple...especially since my wife will move in with me... ( we are married for 45 days now).

I am happy the threads are being read :)

Thanks and Regards,
Prasad

Hi all,

I lived in Riyadh almost 13 years. So from my experience i can clear u r doubts little bit.

Living in Riyadh or in any other cities in Saudi is not very expensive when compared with other gulf or European countries etc.in riyadh we will get cheap and good things if we know exact places where we get those things.anyhow the cost of living is increased for past two three years still when compared with other countries it is still cheap. especially if we take the case of food we will get lots of food for cheap price.

it is correct the rent of housing is increased and it is now difficult to get a good one.if we get a good one the rest all we can solve easily.we will get all types of vegetables and all spices, whatever we are getting in india we will get from markets.

Lots of international schools started now adays so there are lots of choices .ladies if they are qualified they can apply in schools.they will get lots of indian friends .

if u want to know more i will write .Warm welcome to Saudi Arabia

Regards
Nj

Hi Babu,

welcome to IL and also this thread. Please go through the posts in this thread. My husband explained well about the Saudi living. I think that will help you. even after you want to ask anything you can.

It is a very good salary and you can bring your family to Riyadh. Indian Embassy school and many other schools are there. You will get all type of veg. here and no problem for veg. food. we are also veg. and we are here for the past 11 years.

Welcome to Saudi also. please feel free to ask questions. and also read NJ s post.

Hi Pal,

Welcome to IL. and to this thread. Just I saw your post. First of all Congrats to you.

Ya we are in Dammam, and your salary is too cool. You can easily get 1 BHK here and also you can save some amount out of your salary. Let me ask my husband to write more on this to night.
He is also one IL and his ID is "kitchuppa"

But you can accept your offer. no problem.

Now here cost of living is some what higher compare to last year, even then no problem for your salary. so you can accept your offer. Shall I know the company name?

All the best to you and your wife.
