Default Going Ga Ga to migrate 2 UK

Help me friend,

I am satying in singapore from past few years, just want 2 migrate sumother place like UK. We will be trying for HSMP visas down the line as my hubby finish his MS in IT. But sometime I feel Singapore is good 2 stay and UK would be quite cold with more depression due to weather.
What u suggest me friend?
This would good Idea to migrate?
People says that u cannot save in UK.
Please enlighten me friends.

Hi Noorie:

Well, as far as the weather is concerned, it is true that UK weather can be unpredictable and depressing. If you have lived in a tropical climate all your life UK weather does take sometime to get used to.

I know of a lot of people who have taken up permanent residency / citizenship in the UK. But I don't know of anyone who has moved from Singapore - so definitely cannot comment from that perspective.

About saving, the cost of living in the UK is definitely higher than most countries but my opinion is that you can save anywhere in the world. But in a relative sense, less than you would in Singapore probably (I might be wrong here).

Hope this helps.

Sindhu

Hi
1.Like you hv mentioned the weather in London is very depressing.....very difficult to adapt to if coming from a tropical climate.
2.It is very very hard work to maintain a clean house here(my personal opinion). Due to the climate there is moisture always which leads to Grout, fungus etc. One has to keep cleaning the windows, bathrooms, kitchen all the time.
3.It is very difficult to save as the cost of living is very high. But if there are 2 earning members then it is fine.
4.If you have children then again you have to think about their education. I prefer Indian education atleast till 10th standard.
5.Preference is given now to people from the EU for jobs and it is difficult to get good jobs here now.
6.Travelling to India for holidays will be cheaper from singapore than from London.

Remember grass always looks greener on the other side!! So think twice, if possible make a short trip here especially during winter(!!) and then make a decision.

Regards
Jay

Hi noorie,...
I've just arrived to London... (3 months back only...). But, I think u should think twice or thrice over this.... my husband is also from IT,... UK seems to be certainly a high cost of living city... we can't save much... though the earning potential is high....
and, definitely, the weather here is very very bad and depressing... and as all others say- there's also a point to think about the visits to ur home- certainly travel from UK to India takes so much time and cost... than that of from East/ Middle east countries....
and,..I see the young children's decipline and behaviour here is not pretty good,...because of too much of freedom... (this is my opinion...) which we should think about first--when it comes about our children's education...
Like Jaykay told, a short trip may help,...
Wish u good luck...
Cheers...,
Thejaswi.

Hi,

I would be travelling to London shortly for a long term assignment. Im just waiting for the confirmation. I going to be alone and my husband is not travelling with me. If im single, can I save money?

Throw light upon this.

I have another opportunity in USA (Boston). Again there too i will be single and my hubby wud not be travelling with me.

Throw light on both places, cost of living and level of saving, the weather, people etc.

I have a little idea about USA, since I have already been there for 3 months on a short term assignment

Hi Pree:

If you are looking for a comparison between London and Boston, then easily London will be more expensive even though Boston has a higher cost of living relatively in the US.

Level of saving - maybe in Boston you will be saving more. Here I am assuming that you will be living in the suburbs. Whereas living anywhere in Greater London the rents are higher.

Weather - UK weather is unpredictable and in spring it rains. Right now in Boston, it will be cold and I guess there will be a chill right upto May, if I am right.

People - I always like to think that people are as friendly as I am! Well, in both places they are quite friendly but ofcourse they are busy with their lives so you may not strike a friendship soon but you surely can strike a conversation!

Hope this helps.

Sindhu
