| Hi, Where exactly are you in NY. Check for Patel store(india grocery) or Bhavani Cash and carry store near your address. They always have good quality and the price is also OK. Regarding the budget for grocery, it costs around 200-225 per month in my home. We are two people and we regularly buy meat and seafood. |

| When we were in California we were 6 adults and 1 kid @ home, then we had nearly 400-450$ per month as grocery expense including produce, grocery, meat and seafood. We used to sort out stores for each and every category. In Costco we used to get the following every 15 days: Milk Egg Bread Pastries like muffins/cakes Fruits - Apples/Melons/Honey Dews/Bananas Chicken Onions-Red/Yellow The following also we get in costco but not frequently since it is a big pack: Basmati Rice Kellogs Sugar Jam Butter - Cooking butter for ghee and sweets Mazola Oil - nearly 10 litres in a can Olive Oil Detergent liquid Dish washing liquid Softners Dates Coffee powder You can save a lot by getting all the above in costco/sams club like wholesale stores. In indian stores we used to get our regular spices, rice, dhals and stuff once in a month Whereas the regular vegetables for daily use we get in indian stores and nearby shops once/twice in a week depending on the freshness and nature of veggie. Say in indian stores i get veggies like : Tomato Ginger Ladies finger Brinjal Drumsticks Tindora Green chillies Root veggies Methi leaves Coriander leaves Curry leaves Mint leaves And other South indian veggies In other mexican or american produce section i get veggies like: Garlic Spinach Cabbage Cucumber Carrot Beetroot Cauliflower Brocoli Corn kernels Can veggies like garbanzo and kidney beans Mushroom Turnip/Radish etc I never get curd or idli/dosai batter from stores ; always go for homemade. Frame your budget separately for groceries alone. Closely anlyse for 2 months, automatically you can avoid unwanted and plan accordingly. |

| I agree with Cindhuja, I am just starting to run a home slowly and I try to break things apart by store and it works out to cheaper I noticed.
