Suggestions for child friendly places to visit in Malaysia

Hi,

We are planning to visit Malaysia and spend around 4-5 days in in May this year. We will be doing Singapore and go to malaysia from there. We will be travelling with our 6 yr old and 6 month old girls. My husband and I are nature lovers. We want to cover places that meet our interest and also child friendly. Would like to do a beach for my elder daughter. Any suggestions?

Is it possible to keep just 2 places as our base do the tour? Also, is it worth it visiting Kuala lampur?

Would be grateful to have any suggestions on travel in Malaysia, and on tips while travelling with children. Thanks.

PS: I am new to this site and already enjoying this. But I could not find a forum on travel? Being a travel buff, I miss this sorely.

Happy to know that you are coming to Singapore and malaysia and warm welcome to you and your family.

Although I live in Singapore, I have visited various states of Malaysia. (If you are interested you can see the thread " What to see in Singapore" to know about visiting Singapore.) Of all the beaches, the beach in Penang, I like the most. There are many watersports too.

Other than that, sunway lagoon- is a beach resort and kids will love it.

Thanks for your reply. May I ask you a few more things?

I am thinking of doing penang, tanam negara and kuala lampur. We intend to fly from singapore to one of these places, say penang, then tanam negara, finally kL and fly back to Bangalore from KL. now, I would like to know about:

1) Transport facility from penang to Tanam negara.
2) Transport facility from Tanam negara to KL
3) Any idea about staying options in these places - decent 2 star , child friendly hotels/resorts

Sorry for the delayed reply.

1. Regarding flying from Spore to Malaysia KL is in between and you need to go to penang further. I have no Idea about Taman Negara. I know that it is the national park with mainly tropical rain forests. I havent been there. Sorry.
2. You have buses frequenting KL and penang.
3. No idea about 2 star hotels. My husband always books thru internet and since june is school holiday season, you have to book earlier. In penang we stayed in a 4 star hotel, about 1 KM from the central bus station. It is walkable distance from indian restaurants,temple etc.
4. If you are vegetarian, then it is bit tough in malaysia as pure vegetarian restaurants/eating places are rare. In KL they have a branch of saravana Bhavan. If you are Non vegetarian, you will enjoy the cuisine in Penang especially the seafoods and other chinese/Malay recipes.
5. For children, please stock something from the supermarkets in City centre of Penang. Fruits,cereals,bread, banana milk, strawberry milk etc. and plenty of water bottles.
6. In KL we stayed in a hotel in China Town which is 3 minutes walk from the bus station. It is a 4 star hotel and the rooms are clean and good.
7. If you dont mind you can plan to visit Genting Highlands which has casinos for adults and wonderful theme park for kids. The kids will love it. It is about 2 hours travel from KL. You can book rooms there thru internet.

Our plans are finally drawn (pretty different from what we started with though!). We are doing Singapore and only Kuching in Malaysia. We want to cut down too much of commuting and hence this plan. Thanks for all your suggestions.

I was wondering if I can buy diapers in Kuching ? Also, are bananas and bread available there?

We are taking an airasia flight from johor bahru to kuching - this flights apparently do not allow baby carriers. Does singapore airlines (which we are taking from blore to singapore) allow? Also, will it be useful to carry this for singapore? I have a heavier pram now and if required, I need to procure a light weight stroller.

Again, I have not visited Kuching in M'sia. So do not know abt it. Sorry. But as a popular tourist destination it shd have the basic banana and bread and pampers too.

You need to check with the airlines about taking strollers/pram as they change rules now and again.
But if you ask me whether it is useful in S'pore it is a definite yes. All the pedestrian paths, MRT stations, many buses are user friendly for strollers, prams, wheelchair users etc.And carrying 2 children will definitely be tiring with the humid climate in S"pore. You all will enjoy the trip when you use a pram. Dont forget to bring small umbrellas in your handbag as it will drizzle now and then. Also carry waterbottles wherever you go as it may get really hot during May. The singapore Changi airport has "NTUC Fairprice" departmental store in the basement which have all the basic necessities for travellers like drinks, snacks, fruits, canned foods, milkpowders, pampers, toys, baby dresses, towels,chocolates etc and the prices are fair as the name suggests.
