| | Re: Let's Learn Malay Language! Dear Meenakshi Rajan, Hi ka! First of all, let me welcome you to the thread. You asked me about Teh Tarik. Teh Tarik, literally ‘pull tea’(Teh = Tea , Tarik = Pull). It is a kind of tea actually (chaya). The ingredients are similar with other normal tea but the special thing about it is the way it is prepared. The drink is prepared by pouring piping hot tea from a glass into a waiting glass with out-stretched hands. This method is repeated for few times. Besides cooling down the tea it is believed that this technique mixes the tea with the condensed milk more thoroughly. The secret of the tea is it incorporates oxygen which makes the tea rich and creamy. If you visit Malaysia, don’t forget to go to restaurant and order your Teh Tarik! . Take Care. Hope I have given you enough information. Love, Vashini

Hi Vashini,
Thank you so much for such an elaborate reply. Of course, I have tasted 'teh tarik' when i was in Malaysia for a week visit. I was under the impression it means take away since people use to order for 'teh tarik' and take it away.

Hari Om Meenakshi ka,
I'm happy to hear that you have visited Malaysia. For take away, normally Malaysian will say "bungkus" which means pack. Guess maybe you heard them asking for "Teh Tarik satu bungkus" (Pack one Teh Tarik).
Love,
Vashini

Dear Vashini,
Thanks a lot for your effort and time in introducing Malay Language to us. I am surprised to see so many similarities to sanskrit and Hindi.
God Bless you!!
One small request, can you write the pronounciation also along with each word---maybe in Tamil or Hindi or both. That would be helpful.
Thanks again
Cheers
Jayanthi
