ATTRACTION IN MALAYSIA

Hari Om.
Dear ILites,
Are you looking for interesting places to visit in Malaysia? Here I have list out few interesting places not to be missed in Malaysia.

Cameron Highlands
Situated 160 km northeast of Kuala Lumpur has the best climate in all over Southeast Asia and was an important hill station during the British Rule. Main attractions are the colorful butterflies, Orchids, waterfalls, beautiful scenery and tea plantations. Tea processing plants are worth seeing where drying and packing is done by hand.

Genting Highlands
Situated 140 km northeast Kuala Lumpur at a height of 6550 feet is an expensive place to relax but the cool breeze, a rare in other places and has beautiful resorts with all modern amenities.

Georgetown
Situated 290 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur is the largest city on Penang Island. It is an exotic South Asian seaport with a mix population of Chinese, Indian and Malay. Malaysian 'Satays' and Chinese 'Stir-Fry' served in the restaurants are a delicacy. Set on the waterfront, Eastern and Oriental Hotel is the city's most famed landmark first built in 1855 and now restored. Other places of interest are Ft. Cornwallis, St. George's Church, Clock Tower, Malay Mosque, Penang Museum, Khoo Kongsi - a decorated Chinese clan house, Hindu Sri. Mariamman Temple, Waterfall Temple, the Buddhist Kek Lok Si Temple and the Taoist Snake Temple, where poisonous snakes are worshipped.

Ipoh
Situated 180 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur found by Chinese tin miners. Two Buddhist cave temples, Sam Poh Tong with a turtle pond and Perak Tong is the main attractions. Visit during the prayers, to hear ethereal chants and drum playing.

Kota Bharu
Situated 320 km north of Kuala Lumpur near Thailand in the northeastern corner of peninsular Malaysia with a population of 192000 is a place of traditional Malaysian and Muslim culture. Sangkhat, a cloth interwoven with gold and silver threads is a specialty found here.

Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia gives a glimpse of colorful heritage and a taste of traditional, exotic Asia with rocket like Petronas Towers soaring high, massive shopping malls, driverless trains gliding across the bustling city, enchanting temples and mosques, small colonial churches and British Tudor-style clubhouses. At night, markets and lantern-lit streets gets lively with Malay, Chinese and Indian hawkers selling tempting dishes.

Kuantan
Situated 185 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur is famous for woodcarving and batiks craft.

Melaka
Situated 150 km south of Kuala Lumpur is the oldest city in Malaysia. This City of Dreams offers a broad variety of architecture and culture. The oldest Malaysian Chinese Temple, Cheng Hoon Teng in Chinatown existing for hundreds of years is worth visiting. Melaca cane has its origin in this city.

Penang
This island with tropical beaches, cultural diversity and famous cuisine is a major tourist attraction. A rail drive up Penang Hill amidst of dense tropical forests gives beautiful scenic view of the city. Batu Ferringhi Beach in this island is popular for windsurfing.

Langkawi
Situated 105 km north of Penang, a beautiful group of islands with modest hotels and deluxe resorts, is a beach town with amber, black and white beaches and pure blue water.

Pangkor Islands
130 km south of Penang, this Island on the west coast of Malaysia is a place with striking scenery.

Sabah
Situated 1570 km east of Kuala Lumpur on the northeastern tip of the Borneo Island, Sabah, is the second largest state in Malaysia that has diverse tribes with some primitive parts as well. Trekking on Mt. Kinabalu gives a panoramic view of the forests and sea and a stroll on the Jungle Canopy Walkway gives a unique view of the jungle. Sandakan, another popular tourist city in Sabah on the eastern coast of the state is closer to the Turtle Islands National Park where turtles laying eggs on the beach is a common sight, Gomantong Caves and Sepilok Orang Otang Rehabilitation Center. Explore the amazing world of wildlife on a cruise down the Sungai Kinabatangan, the longest river in Sabah.

Sarawak
Situated 965 km east of Kuala Lumpur on the island of Borneo, is the land of Ibans tribe amidst of thick tropical rain forest. A flight to Kuching will take you to Sarawak. Interesting places to visit is the Sarawak Museum, Niah Caves and 600 ft longhouses that can accommodate the entire village of Dayaks.

Gunung Mulu National Park
Situated 100 km east of Miri, is an isolated primitive rain forest in Sarawak with Southeast Asia.s longest 50 km Clearwater cave, Deer Park at a height of 2,100 m, the Sarawak Chamber famed for world's largest caves and tall limestone forest. The park can be reached by plane, bus or boat from Miri.

Sipadan
385 km from Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, this tiny island is a luring place for divers and has a spectacular view of sea turtles.

Taiping
300 km north of Kuala Lumpur and 97 km south of Penang is Taiping, an old mining center with beautiful lake, colonial architecture, museum, and the misty view of the hills around is worth visiting. Maxwell Hill, an old unchanged hill station nearby, should not be missed out.

Taman Negara National Park
175 km northeast of Kuala Lumpur is this huge national park with lush green rain forest and broad variety of wildlife. Jungle trekking, riverboat excursions, canopy walk, Orang Asli village trip and freshwater fishing are some of the attraction of this park. Wild lives like gibbon, macaque, peacock-pheasant, wild pigs and elephants are seen in a day.s walk and guided night-walk gives the opportunity to encounter nighttime wildlife at night viewing stations.

Terengganu Marine Park
This park is a collection of six islands off the northeastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia and March-September is the best time to visit. One of the Island, Redang with best beaches gives spectacular view of corals and fishes. Kapas, the smallest and isolated island with a beautiful beach and a few small hotels is ideal for honeymooners. Speedboats from the fishing village of Merang, south of Kuala Terengganu can get you to these islands.

Tioman
Situated 353 km southeast of Kuala Lumpur off the southeastern coast of peninsular Malaysia, this beautiful tropical island offers beautiful beaches, clear water and dense rain forests. Coral Island is a must visit. Flight from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore or small boat transport from the coastal town of Mersing can get you to this island

Thanks for sharing information about the interesting places to see in Malaysia. I will sure make a note of it in case we stop by enroute to India. I have stopped at KL briefly once.
