    @pinkrosebud,

    We used to stay in BRE Alessio, and buses 110 & 6 would take you to UCLA. Immediate next apartment is Heights apartments. Both of them have more Indians in this area.

    There are also eRideshare.com, carpool.com etc for van or car-pools. I have seen a van-pool to UCLA every evening at 4:15 PM from BRE Alessio.

    Timing of your travel matters too. If you travel before 7:00 AM & before 3:00 PM you have a better chance of reaching your spot quickly.

    Better to stay as close as possible, as traffic in LA is a night-mare if you get caught during the peak hours. (e.g) For a mere 8 miles, I have spent 2 hours sitting in the bus for the traffic to move.

    You could use sites like hotpads.com, padmapper.com to choose the apartments.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.
    JM

    @JustMyself,
    thanks for the reply.
    we are thinking of staying near UCLA now (as public transport is not that great)
    however rents seem to be higher there.
    Have you heard of barrington apartments? Any review?

    sorry for bugging you with so many questions. Just anxious about Los Angeles

    @pinkrosebud,

    Am not so well versed in that area. But am aware, Santa Monica area is definitely costly. Check out Palms or Culver City for apartments near UCLA. padmapper.com just pulled several places below 1800$ for a 2BHK. Try it out :)

    If you are a student of UCLA, you should also be getting accommodations off campus. Please check out https://housing.ucla.edu/student-housing/transfer-students/living-off-campus

    In general apartments in West LA starts from 1400$+ for an average 1 BHK. What are your requirements ?

    Cheers,
    JM
