Hi Honeydew,

Welcome to Los Angeles.
I can answer few of ur questions which i am aware of.
1.You can use tap water but just cold not hot ..if you want or you can buy filter pitcher available at target or any other store to purify it.
2.Kitchen utensils i am not sure exactly what you are looking for but you can buy from "Bed Bath n Beyond" and LNT.They send you coupons as well.
If you are looking for anything specific related to Indian Cooking than i guess u can ask in Indian Grocery Store nearby ur place ..there are three Near your place or you can go to "artesia" which is a little far but has everything related to Indian needs right from utensils to clothes.
3.I have a farberware mixer which i am using since a year for making dosa batter..so far itz going good.

I don't have any kids yet so no knowledge about your other questions.

Well i am staying very nearby to your place..within a mile.

Take Care,

Anshita
