Question Day care centres in London

Hi all

I will be moving to London in a month's time with my 2 year old daughter. My hubby is already in London(East Ham) and had moved there in March'08. I am being deputed to London from my company and I am on my work permit VISA.

What are the various options available for taking care of my daughter and how much does it cost like
1) Are there any day cares being run by Indians in and around East Ham and how much does it cost for day care
2) I am quite skeptical about leaving ny daughter with an unknown person (baby sitter/nannies) but still wan to find out as to how much it cost

I am quite worried as to how my daughter will adapt herself to the new environment and hence want to give her the best environment possible.

thanks
Meena

Hai Meena,

I am also from London (Wembley) . You can find many childcare centres in Eastham but it is little bit expensive something around £600 per month. Don,t think about Nannies as they are much expensive than childcare centres.

Hi Meena:

Welcome to Indusladies.

As Sitha mentioned you have the option of child care centre /day care nurseries. There will be quite a few local to the area you live in. You can start off with daycare centre to be safe and then also check childminders /babysitters (check the ones who are registered) since I believe based on the number of children they mind, they are able to give more attention. I'm not quite sure what the costs are, but I have a friend who leaves her son with a childminder in our town and pays her about £700/month. So I'm presuming in London it will be around £800/month or more.

There is a government department called Ofsted which is responsible for inspecting schools as well as all childcare for children under 8 years old. The Ofsted website at http://www.ofsted.gov.uk publishes official reports on daycare online. The reports give useful indications of the strengths and weaknesses of a facility which may help parents who are looking for childcare. This might help you decide.

Hope you find your move to London smooth sailing and hoping see you in Indusladies' forums as well.

Sindhu

Hi Sindhu and Sita

Thanks for your encouraging replies. Have been a little busy with work lately and hence was not able to reply prompty

My travel is almost confirmed now and my work place will be out of Finsbury Circus,London. My husband works out of Southwark, London. I would like to get your valuable advice on where we can search for our accomodation since you guys are long timers in London. We are not particularly looking out for accomodation in East Ham and would like to know of other places too from where our travel to work place would be less. Most likely , my parents would be joining us in London and I guess the initial problem of looking out for day cares is not there right now.

Please let me know your thoughts

Thanks again

Hi Meena:

Good that your travel is confirmed. I presume that your are looking forward to your work in London.

Since I don't live in London, I cannot be of much help as far as accomodation suggestions are concerned. However, I'm sure some of our ILite Londoners can help you out there.

Wishing you all the best and hoping to see more of you in Indusladies.

Sindhu
