Hi Rakshantha,

We had been to Japan on a holiday! ( 2weeks)

The 5 things which I liked about Japan

1. The Railway Network...it's mind boggling!
2. The ancient cities like Kyoto & Nara...are better than the capital city Tokyo.
( more green, beautiful & people are very friendly)
3.Toilets... in suburbs- it's not only Clean but also high-tec esp... the handicapped ones!
4.The Italian food are at its best esp... Pizza & Pasta ( better compared the one u get in Italy!)
5.People well dressed...from a security guard to MD all are in suits &
women too are neat & trendy!

Hi, rakshanta

I visited Japan in 1994 for two weeks. During that period I was immensely impressed by the following.

1. Phone booths are there in many places and you can put the currency and talk and at the end of your talk you get the changes promptly. The call I made to Mumbai was crystal clear.

2. Every nook and corner in Tokyo and other big cities they have machines (unattended) for getting changes in denominations you want.

3. People are very friendly especially towards Indians. The Japanese security officer as part of his checking took my passport and on seeing I am from India, bowed to me and said namaste.

4. The currency Yen is smaller than dollars (it was 1$=100 yen) with the result when I landed in Tokyo, the organisers of the meeting I was to attend gave me funds for attending which was a few lakhs of Yen!

5. Even though Yens less than 100 have no value, in all super markets and other places, they promptly give changes down to one Yen. I had my pouch full of changes and in the airport exchange counter when I dumped the coins in a funnel, they were sorted out, converted into dollars in a jiffy. They had machines for that in 1994 itself which have come to India recently.

6. Of course, cleanliness, discipline etc. have already been mentioned.

7. While leaving Tokyo on the way to Narita airport, I was amazed to see the maze of flyovers and some of them vanished into thin air due to the fog.

Before going to Japan I had watched on Mumbai T.V, the famous japanese serial 'Oshin' and was fascinated about the country. I even secretly wished that I could escape into the mountains like Oshin and perhaps years later I would have returned to Tokyo as a Japanese!

Wish you all the best and enjoy your stay in Japan.

Regards,

TDU

P.S: I have read in our Tamil magazine that there is one Mr. Mani in Tokyo who voluntarily helps all Indians coming to Tokyo for sight-seeing, eating places etc.
