Default Moving to Germany

Hi Ladies,

I am currently residing in chennai, India. I am expecting a kid by March 2009 and may shift to Bonn, Germany soon.

Can you throw me light in the following areas about Germany:
a) How is the hospital facility in Germany if I want to give birth at Germany?
b) Will be equally good as in India/US (as I am aware of the process in US)
c) Is it advisable to give birth there at Germany (as an Indian in all aspects)

Thanks in Advance

Thumbs up Re: Moving to Germany

Hi

Welcome to Germany :) Bonn, the yester capital of Germany.

I am definitely not the right person who could answer your queries. But I would say it is quite a challenge to find an English Speaking Gynaec ....As such Doctors in Germany have to know english but they might find difficult to express if they are not used to talking English on a daily basis.

Ok...now..I don't want to scare you. One of friends found one though not in Bonn and am sure you will find one too. I will post more if I get further details.

Cheers
Jenz

Hi,
I was residing in Germany for almost 7yrs and my son was born in Boebling near stuttgart.
The Medical Facilities are very good there .I had a c-section and was in hospital for more than a week. All the docters know English and try their best to explain .I had a nice experince in hospital except for the food as am a vegetarian.Everything is covered by insurance even all the medicines during pregnancy and all the children medicines are fully covered by insurance.
I think Germany is the best in that respect so don't worry at all
All the Best
Minu

Thank you Minu. I gain little confidence now. BTW, I am also vegetarian. How did you manage to find a good gyneac? If you are aware of any good gyneac, please let me know.

Can you please share information related to the hospital and the facilities related to this.

Thanks in Advance

hi Kv_Shyamala,
I asked my relocation agent to find a female gynecologist. The relocation lady was provided to us by my hubbys company who helped us in settling down to Germany from India .My gyneac is retired now.
For choosing a hospital for delivery u can take a tour where they give information about the facilities and provide all usefull tips.My hospital also had a separate child clinic in case of emergancy.U need to check out the time & schedule for such tours for the expecting parents.

One more thing the insurance also covers a trained nurse (in German called Hebbamme)who comes at home during prenancy to teach some excercise and breathing technique for easy delivery. She also visits u afterwards at home to check u and ur baby health.
U can also join some courses for new parents.
Cheers
Minu

Welcome to Germany, Shyamala. You will love it here. We used to live in Dusseldorf (30-40 mts from Bonn) for 4 yrs and now in Munich since a year. I recently gave birth to my second child in Munich (first one was in India)... 2.5 months back. The medical facility in Germany is excellent, the insurance is brilliant (i read so many stories about this particular aspect in US). Most doctors know English (esp in Nordrheinwestfalen). You only have to speak a bit slowly. Check out the British, american consulate websites and you'll find an english speaking doc for sure. That's how I found mine in Dusseldorf.

Minu has already given you the info. I delivered at the university hospital in Munich, it was a normal delivery (my first one was c-section), i had a lovely stay at the hospital. I also had a mid-wife who visited me before and after the delivery and gave excellent service. So don't worry about the medical aspect. All these visits plus few courses like birth preparatory, post-partum courses are also covered under insurance.

after you land here if you have any further questions shoot it out here and i'll help as much as i can.

Latha
